buying dawes

hey. i'm looking to buy a new racer . have my eye on a dawes giro 300. i cycle everywhere and have just got pissed off with having crap bikes all the time. i love the speed and feel of a racer.

firstly is this a good bike. will it get destroyed by irish roads?

any ideas on where to buy it nice and cheap??

any other good alternatives??

It's a very low spec "sports" bike. The only bike dawes are still associated with is the Galaxy tourer. Look at bigger manufacturers like Trek or Giant, you'll get better value for money.

Better still buy second hand. You'll get far more bike for your money

Where did you get that idea from? Dawes make a very broad range of bikes including 23" frame mountain bikes (I've struggled to find anything larger than a 22" elsewhere), though I'm not sure about their Irish dealer network. I recall seeing Dawes at Eurocycles some time ago.

Dawes are fairly widely available - Hollingsworth Cycles in Templeogue and Penny Farthing on Camden Street for a start. Their bikes are generally good value for money.

I got mine in the post from England. Delivery was 50 pounds but it still worked out cheaper.

sorry to hijack thread but the Giro 300 looks like a good deal. I'm lookin to get my first racer and i'm about 6foot 1, would the 55cm frame be an alright fit?

55 might be too small for you for a road bike -

Im 5ft 10 and I ride a 57cm - but its not really the overall height that matters but your leg messurement. You can work it out and then make the best approx selection. - size up here
