None of them. Pick a similar setup from here: http://ankermann-pc.com/en/

Dell will rip you off when you upgrade from the base systems. You'll get much better value from Ankermann.

Ive tried ankermann and cant seem to get better value core2duo with printer and 19inch monitor. Do you know if there is free delivery with the dell printers that are on offer at the moment

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 13,874 ✭✭✭✭PogMoThoin

Floppy's are totally obsolete, only hold 1.44Mb. Useless f**cking things. You never get a floppy in a pc any more. The only time you'd ever need a floppy nowadays is to install sata drivers in Xp, but there's ways around it. Get a card reader.
On another word, modems don't come in pc's nowadays either. Most people have broadband.

Dell printer is not really worth anything, only give them away with new pc's cos its expensive to get cartridges for & you have to buy them from Dell. There is a modification that you can do to allow you to put cheaper cartridges in them tho. Pm me if you need to know how.

So what multifunction printer do you think is the best value for money or is the dell worth it

Dunno that much bout printers, all i have is that Dell 1 (got it free with a lappy for my mother last yr) but i had to modify it to take cheaper printer cartridges. Don't use a printer much myself.

I've put together a self build list off Komplett 2 see how they would fare out price-wise. Its a little bit more expensive than Dell & doesn't include a printer, but does include a monitor, mouse & keyboard. http://www.komplett.ie/k/shoplist.asp?mode=receive&si=390825&su=C8EB12E8-0E4A-47B7-B1A2-5F0B5F38D1BA

    I'll try ankermann now.
System: INTEL Core 2 Duo 1,86Ghz
    E6300 FSB1066 S.775 2MB..............Base price € 399.00

    - PCI-e 256MB ATI RADEON X1300 Pro TV-out & DVI: € 44.90
    - IDE 320 GB Western Digital 3200JD (8MB-7200rpm): € 56.90
    - 256MB DDR-II RAM G-Skill CL4 533MHz
    - DDR-II upgrade from 256MB to 1024MB TRANSCEN PC533: € 64.90
    - DVD-RW Samsung 16x/16x/4,0x RAM DL SH-S162A/BEBE (CaseColor): € 27.90
    - Ankermann Tower 6x USB 2.0

    - 450W XILENCE PFC 5V=29 A/ 3.3V=30 A/ 12V=14 A: € 27.90
    - Realtek ALC888 8 channel audio

Not bad & pre built. Remember that you have to pay extra for an operating system & you'll have to add peripherals ie. monitor, keyboard & mouse.

I've no idea about that mobo, i'm well up on overclocking mobo's, thats what i'm interested in myself. There isn't much of a difference in mobo's at stock speed, people usually look for good mobo's that overclock well and that is usually the deciding factor. If your gonna build him a rig for overclocking, your gonna have to raise (nearly double) your budget, other than that the mobo's fine & will suit his needs. This is a pretty basic low budget pc, don't expect 2 much.

Edit: if he wants 2 play modern games, the best value for money mid range gpu out there at the moment is the 7600gt. Might be worth considering changing to it as this will play any game available at the moment @ 1280x1024 without having to completely reduce the settings or drop to a lower resolution.
Don't forget you need to buy a copy of Windows Xp, Ankermann don't supply the operating system.
    Good luck
