electric windows '00 passat

I have a 00 passat with intermittent driver side window motor. This has stayed down a few times on me and nearly always when it rains.I have replaced the switch and checked wires going into door but can only find heavy wires and about 6 light ones which dosen't make sense as i expected about 20 wires going into the door…

Alternatively anyone know a good auto electrician in the Carrigaline (co. Cork) area who dosen't charge an arm and a leg.
All help appreciated

It could be the motor that is faulty. This is not uncommon in a Passat of that year.
