Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    LOL
I was referring to the time they stuck this "crime busting" video van down by the corner of Rubys and all the chippers. It was supposed to stop trouble by the fact that it was very visible and everybody knew that they were being filmed.
That kind of back fired and a few of our "friendly and engaging locals" kicked the sh*te out of it. The cameras were kicked off the roof. €15,000 worth of damage done I believe.

LOL, sorry, I have to admit I was hopeing the subject heading would be sensationalist enough to draw some attention.

On the plus side you now know where to go for live music on Friday nights.

    FRIDAY NIGHT RIOT
This coming Friday night Musiklab team up with Exposed to present The Cartoon Thieves, Floyd Soul & The Wolf with Heno on the decks. Riot! has been setting the standards when it comes to live shows with all the stops being pulled out to ensure the best atmosphere for seeing a gig anywhere in Waterford. The Cartoon Thieves hail from Galway and were originally scheduled to play the official launch of Friday Night Riot last month. A family bereavement resulted in that appearance having to be postponed.

The Cartoon Thieves are one of the most impressive live bands in Ireland Heno has come across on his many travels with Gorbachov. This Galway based 5 piece liken themselves to Wilco and Tom Waits (in his Bone Machine mode), but that’s just being modest. They have been in existence for just over a year and while being students of the classic songwriting book, innovation and sculpting of new sounds is key to the band forging their own musical direction. Each Member brings their musical style to the fore, which makes for a very unique live show. The band are currently in the studio recording there Debut EP. Check them out at www.myspace.com/thecartoonthieves Opening up on the night are Floyd Soul & The Wolf one of the most highly rated new bands emerging from Waterford. TV Appearances, Hot Press accolades and a bag of great tunes ensures a great future for them. Doors open 11pm and admission is 10euros.

NEXT WEEK: it’s the Dae Kim UK Tour Fundraiser as they head off in November to play with The Fratellis for five dates. The Waterford band were asked to support them on the back of some great shows. Faced with the prospect of having to turn down such a great opportunity due to lack of funds to pay all their expenses - the way up the ladder in the world of rock is not paved with gold you know. Expect bands & DJ’s and al money going to a good cause. www.musiklab.net

Not to The Bowery, unless the sound is improved on from last Friday.

Hmmm, dont recall the sound being bad last week, but I was on a night off so mightn't be the best judge. The bands are usually very impressed with the effort we go to for the gig.

I do remember is one of the bands giving guff to the audience which I wasn't impressed with, manager apologised after, but not much good for everyone else

I only went to see the first band, but the vocals weren't loud enough and were drowned out by the instruments.

I heard about the other band giving out, not good but that's not really your fault.

In fairness support acts don't get the same attention as headline acts, they normally have to fit in round the headline acts set up. They sound check second, go on first and have the shorter set.

Although, it was suggested to me that one of the reasons why the headline band gave out was because Jay Jam blew them off the stage.

    FRIDAY NIGHT RIOT!
    The weekly live music club
The Bowery, The Mall, Waterford - 11pm

KILA, LOS LANGEROS & GRAND CENTRAL RUN RIOT!
Friday Night Riot! the weekly live music club at The Bowery every Friday night has another jam packed month of gigs coming up for music fans in November. The high production values, where top rate sound & lighting along with first class live bands has placed Friday Night Riot! as the best gig space in town. The Month of November serves disco, ska, trad, world music, punk and indie:

    Friday November 3rd (€10)
    GRAND CENTRAL STATION
    DJ HENO.

The funky, disco sounds of the local seven piece band Grand Central Station are set to kick off a jam packed month. A covers band, but a covers band with a unique style who’s repertoire extends beyond the obvious and into the heady disco, funk & soul days of the 60’s & 70’s. James Brown, Bootsie Collins and a whole load more of classic hits. Doors open 11pm. Admission 10euros.

    Friday November 10th (€10)
    LOS LANGEROS
    ILYA K
    DJ HENO

Presented by Ilya K, who will be playing live as support to Los Langeros who hail from Corks hispanic quarter in the sunny south of Ireland. They have been perfecting their contemporary cow-punk sound there for the last 2 & a half years. Their line-up represents their musical diversity with a pan-European fusion of Irish, Scottish, Italian and English musicians. A screeching electric mandolin flanked by two guitar wielding madmen with jews-harp, harmonica, tambourine and outrageous catchy vocals all backed up by a ferocious pounding rythm section lashing out some of the most intense country music ever. The groove is a punkabilly ska-tinged medley of singalong choruses and distorted 12-string melodies guaranteed to work any crowd into a screaming slobbering mess. Doors 11pm. Adm 10euros

    Friday Novembr 17th (€15)
    KILA
    & Support

The big one of the month as huge festival favourites Kila touch down. If there’s one thing for sure Kila know a thing or two about making any venue rock. With six highly acclaimed best selling original albums, live albums & DVD’s and plenty of solo projects their popularity shouldn’t be of any surprise. They might be classed as a traditional Irish music act, but their influences from such diverse genres as world music, rock & techno music make them stand out and appeal to a wider audience. Their stage presence, which most bands would probably give an arm and a leg for, is magic with just as much energy packed into every gig whether it’s selling out Vicar Street, touring the globe or at this years Trafest. A band not to miss. Tickets on the door admission 15euros.

    ILYA K

In the world of the robot mind it's hard to maintain a sense of character and originality. But it's ok for help is at hand...
...ilya K not only breathe honesty into their music but sustain a quality of innovation and integrity that will help us erase the robots and be where we want to be!

ilya K's live shows stand testimony to this as the band inject an energy and passion into each performance that is rarely seen on any stage today. Since forming in late 2004, ilya K have been going from strength to strength. Their self released debut single Blackout/ic()e received excellent reviews along with extensive airplay on the radio and the web.

Already in 2006 they've had tracks released on 2 indie compilations. Irish indie label Sofa Records (www.sofarecords.ie) - Music for People with Long Ears 2006 and English indie label Sublingual Records (www.myspace.com/sublingualrecords) - Sublingual Vol 3 They've been gigging extensively around Ireland this year and with their debut album being recorded this summer, ilya K look well on their way to making their mark...
...now all they need is YOUR help.
