I wish to add a simple map to a website to show the location of a particular business in the West of Ireland. Rather than just getting an image of Ireland from Google and adding a red blob in Photoshop to where the business is located, I was wondering if anyone has any advice on creating such a custom map via software/online tool?

Google Earth is an option of course, but gives a fairly patchy image of Ireland...

You should check out Cloud's Blog at Cloudlands. He talks about the map that was put up on adverts.ie

Use the Google Maps API. Very easy to create a map such as this with just a few lines of JavaScript.

Dynamic as well, means that people can move around e.g. zoom out to see distance from Dublin or zoom in to see local roads.

Thank you for the suggestions. I'm looking at the Google Maps API now and will have a crack at using it.

    cheers,

if you dont feel up to the task of messing with google maps code you can always use www.yourgmap.com , it's free , quick and you can customize / add as many locations / pointers / bubble info as you want

But for ireland doesn't let you add a street name only city.
Does anybody know a way of changing the address into lat and long so you can added into a website?

you can add "notes" to a bubble which will allow you to input full address , phone no , email etc

I was looking into adding Google Maps to a site but the road I'd like to use isn't there. And the place has been there years. It's Byran S Ryan in Tallaght. :(

    Edit:

I can see it in Hybrid more :o

Lads I started using google maps api for my site www.ratemypub.ie but I noticed the resolution wasn't great especially for the smaller towns, yahoo maps api is ten times better. Especially if you're doing something static!

Have a look at http://www.ratemypub.ie and let me know what ye think!

    Thanks
    Gary
