I'm a student in LIT and this Bebo ban is really annoying me! I can never seem to get on to it, and that's ok because it's a ban! But certain people tell me they can get on. I'd like to get on any help would be appriciated!

lol i wonder behind the reasoning of banning a single site, and not just banning browsing altogether...

Because bebo has become a major source of students hogging computers for hours of mindless surfing more than any other site in Irish Universities. When I teach CAD in UL the amount of students using bebo I have to kick out of a specialist lab that they have no right to even be in is ridiculous.

Unlike other sites like myspace, bebo is much more popular in Ireland ans especially limerick. Google trends shows that ireland is the more common user of bebo (searches at least). Limerick city was by far the biggest user city but this has been reduced no doubt by the LIT ban and the impending UL ban.

    Its so fecking true.

I hate Bebo and the amount of people hogging the PCs inside the open access area is ridiculous.

Some of LITs blocking however is draconian.

LIT have done the same recently.

Couldn't log into OffTopic.com and Electric Picnics forums.

    Pretty ridiculous.

    Hey all,

If your computer network is blocked with someone like Fortiguard, just simply use a proxy server using secure hyper text transfere protocall - HTTPS
    eg. https://www.kproxy.com

Be care ful using proxies though, because you are connecting through another server it is possible for them to acquire your password.

    Kev.

They block proxy sites as they come about so that's not a solution. I managed to find a good way last year but it spread around and they caught onto to it again.

I've noticed a good few in the library using it alright. Tis a cancer I tells you!

Last year people went through dozens of proxies but everyone of them got blocked. Any new ones that get found will get blocked too. It's a bit of a dead end.

Well its simple, if you want to use Bebo, use your own computer. Don't waste the universities and other students time.

I don't see what is so great or important about Bebo anyway.

Just to let you know using proxies or anything similar is a waste of time. What happens is the college will review the top sites being accessed from their network. If they believe any of these are a waste of bandwidth they'll block it. If they see a proxy in that list you can bet your ass it'll be blocked.

Like 5uspect said the only eay to get around this is to use your own computer.

bebo is a shocking waste of time, but some of the sites that are blocked are strange. last year there was a list of the top 500 supercomputers on slashdot.org and there was 1 in galway (www.ichec.ie) and it was banned.
obviously they don't want us wasting time reading about anything informative.

i have a way of getting into the site without using a proxy but not willing to tell ye. It has to do with the email alerts you get.
