    Hi guys,

    Thinking about getting either:

    1984 Merc SEC 500
    or
    1995 S500 Coupe.

    Similar mileage, condition and price.

    Any advice much appreciated,

    Ruppert

Will you be doing much driving? Also, some more details on both cars would be good. The S500 will be a bigger, stronger, faster and more comfortable car. On the other hand, the 500SEC is far better looking, a better size and a real classic. You need to be very careful of rust on Mercedes - the S500 should be ok, but check the SEC carefully, especially the panel under the rear parcel shelf which can only be seen from inside the boot. Personally, if I were going for an SEC then I'd go for the 560 on the basis that you may as well be hanged for a sheep as for a lamb.

Whats are the prices? Bearing in mind a really good SEC will set you back 12000-15000 you might as well buy the S500 coupe at least its 10 years younger and does'nt suffer the rear rot mentioned above. Though the SEC is a more distinguished design.

    Mike.
