    Don't.

If you must have a 406 make sure it's a decent power diesel.

    this one is Petrol

What the problem of the Petrol model??

the petrols are thirsty and it's a heavy car. I had a 2.0 and it felt a little bit nippy but would only get 30-32mpg.

    Nice and comfy though!

They don't hold their value well. I would guess that car should be costing about 4k privately in good nick. What are offering for it?

the offer is less than that, I am going to c the car tomorrow, what should I ask about??

this is 1.8 Petrol, It should not be as heavy as the 2.0 correct?

the car itself is heavy, not the engine

check honestjohn.co.uk (car by car breakdown) and parkers.co.uk (reviews) and carsurvey.org for common problems.

    is this it?

The bonnet looks out of line. Check for frontal damage/overspray.
    Check ALL electrics.

It doesn't seem to be parked in the nicest area of Dublin. Look at all the grafitti and boarded up shops! Probably not an issue be I'd alwasy be wary on a private sale.

    mmalaka,

Have you gotten quotes for insurance yet? I remember you saying that you were having problems getting your previous driving experience & license from abroad recognised over here. If you haven't got that sorted, a 1.8 may mean a pricey premium.

this issue was solved by getting a paper from the Insurance company from Jordan

    Thanks

    How about a few alternatives:

    Mazda 626:

    Nissan Primera:

    Honda Accord:

Jap cars of that age and mileage generally tend to be more reliable. My money would be on the Honda Accord. I had one of those many years ago and it never let me down.

    u r correct

but the first Honda is already sold and the other one it seems not good as the first one:(

Do not buy a petrol 406 - the diesel hdi is far, far better. For a big car, it gets great economy, 50 - 60 mpg is doable. I suppose you are tempted by the cheap price. Don't do it.

    yes ;)

I am looking for something good withen this price:o

You'll notice that theres no 406 hdi's within that 3k price range on carzone, only petrol ones. Nobody wants the petrol 406's, they aren't any good, thats why they don't hold their value. If you can't stretch to 4 or 5k euro, and save $$$$$ on fuel costs and headaches by getting the hdi, look for a different car.

mileage is very high there. i drive a 406 coupe, once the mileage get high on these cars they cause problems. make sure you get a machanic to check over it.
