Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. On the BBC site

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/teams/b/blackburn_rovers/6058752.stm

    Reid sidelined by fractured back

Reid has played just three times for Blackburn this season
Blackburn midfielder Steven Reid has been ruled out for four months with a stress fracture of the back.
The 25-year-old has not played since injuring his back in the Republic of Ireland's defeat to Germany at the start of September.

Reid, who said he was "totally gutted" by the diagnosis, will now not return until at least the middle of February.

The ex-Millwall player, who joined Blackburn in 2003, will be fitted with a back brace later this week.

"The last few weeks have been really frustrating," said Reid, who went to see a chiropractor in an effort to cure the problem.

"I've been pulled and twisted all over the place in recent weeks in the hope of sorting out the injury.

"But then last week I had another scan and it showed up a stress fracture which now means I face six to eight weeks of total rest followed weeks six to eight weeks of getting my fitness back.

"I'm totally gutted and devastated by all of this because this is the biggest injury of my career to date.

"But at least we now know what the problem is, and hopefully the stress fracture will now heal and then fingers crossed I can play again as soon as possible."

Pity for Reid, after a few years of injury jinx he finally got things going last season and was first team player for Blackburn and this happens, hope he recovers soon

We should be able to handle San Marino without Reid.

    Hopefully.

More bad luck for Reid :(

Blackburn midfielder Steven Reid will not play again this season after picking up a cruciate knee ligament injury in training.

It is a fresh blow for the the 25-year-old Republic of Ireland international, who has not played since September due to a long-standing back problem.

'We are desperately sorry for the lad,' chairman John Williams told the club's official website.

'He has worked so hard to get back to full fitness after his back injury and was close to making a return to action.'

This latest setback is likely to rule Reid out for six months.

    Feck it :(

Reid will be missed. Hughes may have to sign a central midfielder in the transfer window now.

    This is very bad news,

Was wishing to have reidy back on the right for rovers to strengthen the midfield! Have to depend on emerton as the only pure right winger now!

    6 months out - :(

Just read that it was a muscle strain in his hamstring. Nothing serious but he'll be out for at least 2 weeks.

big blow for blackburn. I was looking forward to him coming back and us launching a proper assault on the top 6 for another place in Europe this season!

Hopefully we can still do it, but with Reid comfirmed out, its going to be much more difficult

Are you forgetting David Bentley that has been playing on the right wing all season!!???

Bentley is not an out and out right winger, he's naturally a creative central midfielder in tugay mould.

Reid is a much better winger than either bentley or emerton. Bad loss

Bentley tends to drift into the middle alot, he does a good job on the right but i would not consider him a winger.

Isn't Tugay more of a sitting and holding midfielder? Wasn't Bentley previously a forward at Arsenal.

I'll admit I don't watch Blackburn all that much but I'm sure that comment is completely wide of the mark.

Yes bentley did play at forward at arsenal but in his general play he has alot more in common with tugay's style of play that he has in a right winger sense of play.

I'm not saying that he a bad player i just do not see him as a good right winger, alot more effective when going through the middle.

Tugay sits in front of the back four. The lad can hardly run now a days. Bentley is tricky and reasonably pacey. I fail to see any comparison.

Bentley and Tugay are both very creative players.

Yes bentley does have more pace but that does not mean that they are totally different.

Bentley is not bad on the right but he is not as good there as reid or emerton as he does not cover that side in a defensive manner at all, and also does not stay out wide, tends to drift into the middle which makes the teams play from that side more narrow. Reid does make runs into the middle but he also moves out wide alot more.

While bentley is in the middle he has more free reign as savage is there to do the defensive work.

Bentley in my opinion is the only player in the current squad that could replace tugay when he eventually retires. Still young and can still improve.

    Reid will be missed! :(

I'd totally disagree and back up Jivin TBH. Bentley is playing great this season, all the time on the right wing. Reid played great last season, mostly in the centre.

Reid tends to drift into the middle from the right and is far more effective in the middle because, not only can he attack, but he has a great tackle as well.

Bentley isn't suited to the middle. The right allows him to show off his trickery. On the subject of midfielders though:

Great signing for Rovers if he avoid the injuries that have plagued him since the move. Was a fantastic player until he fell out with Souness. And maybe now the team will stop missing penalties :)

I understand ur point lemlin but i would also have to disagree :) , bentley is obviously the only player in the squad that could take tugay's place.

Reid does push into the centre but is more effective down the wing than bentley.

Bentley is not bad down the right but he is not a good as reid as i mentioned before.

God i love being able to argue about blackburn players!!!!:D

Dunn is a good signing if he can get over the injuries but if not then it sadly is a waste of money even though he is a blackburn boy! also with him fully fit in the squad he is the replacement for tugay!!!
