    Another that hasn't been mentioned...

Driving down a road with loadsa parked cars on your righthandside and the people driving towards you think they have the right to over take the parked cars and take up your lane. Never give them an inch. Seen plenty of scared faces ducking into gaps between the parked cars while I keep to the speed limit in a straight line. :D

I hate the vehicles who only make a half arsed attempt at pulling into the hard shoulder, and look in their mirrors bemused as to why you won't squeeze in between their fourty-footer, the oncoming traffic and the solid white line.

Fog lights in clear conditions!!! I only assume that the eejits think they're cool... wtf... you're inside the car... you can't see them. Turn 'em off @ssholes!

Coming onto the M50 motorway at the Red cow (Nth-bound)... for God's sake get your speed up to a point where you almost match the flow of traffic... wouldn't be half the delay!

Cars stopped in the middle of a road, letting others out... while traffic is moving at normal speeds towards you. It's illegal to stop in the middle of a road and do this. You have no control over how other traffic (on-coming or not) is going to react. Cop on!

Here's one I get agitated about now and again: people who (at night) 'helpfully' switch to their diplights when you begin your overtaking manoeuvre.
You know the situation: you come up behind a car on an unfamiliar road, but his headlights show that there's a perfectly usable decent straight up ahead.
You indicate and move out, and he switches to the dips! Leaving the road ahead in relative darkness.
Unless I'm certain the road ahead is perfectly clear, I hit the headlights and let him suffer the glare in his door mirror.

Then there are the ones who appear to drive everywhere on the dips.
    Sigh. :(

    8. Drivers who let queue jumpers back into the queue
queue jumping with bus lanes or hard shoulders pisses me off but i jump queues myself when i get the chance, proper ways.

like the other day when i was stuck on a long road leading up to a dual carriageway for 20 mins because a garda at the roundabout on the dual carriageway was making things 100 times worse. i knew the housing estate just off the road so i nipped in there, skipped all the traffic and got back onto the road at the other end of the estate, right next to the dual carriageway. it felt so good to know the annoying bint who was in front of me was now 200 metres behind me and would be there for at least another half hour :D

there was one particular incident that pissed me right off. i was driving down a very narrow road with cars parked either side. someone's car had been clamped and about five blokes were standing in the middle of the road looking at it. i got as far as them and had to stop for about ten seconds while they looked at it. looking at it's not going to make it magically pop off. get off the fcuking road!!!!

    1. People who just 'stop' outside shops (often blocking the road) and don't make any effort to park, even though there may be spaces. They all need burning.
    2. People who really can't drive on the motorway, pulling into the fast lane without actually accelerating or indicating. Or keep braking for no reason (ie., they can't hold the car at whatever speed it is they have chosen to travel). Also Napalm.
    3. Most Taxi drivers
    4. Anything badly modified also usually indicates disregard for other road users/bad driving

    EDITED: For Kbannon...

People who pull out of your way on the overtaking lane lane of the motorway (when the inside is empty for miles), but then proceed to pull back out in to the overtaking lane while you are pulling back in to the left. Grrrrrrrr

Flogging is too good for them

To be fair, they're not half as bad as the ones who won't move out of the way in the first place.

I hate those fcuks. Jumped up little bollocks. Who I suspect in most cases cant even write there own name. If my lane is clear I generally just ignore them and speed up. One Gobsh1te tried to tackle me about it one day. Luckly I was driving a D reg Mondeo. I asked him his name, told him I was a off duty Gardai and that if he didn’t shout up and stop annoying me I was going to arrest him for obstructing a public road. The wanker couldnty apologise quick enough. I would of knock him down if I thought for a minute I d get a way with it.

Perhaps Anan1 mentioned returning to school because of your grammar and spelling in your original post, especially since you mention the supposed illiteracy of road workers.

i hate when someone pulls out infront of you even though there is nothing behind me, only to turn off a couple hundred yards down the road. i used to work with a contrcting company and it used to p!$$ off the driver no end when someone would overtake the truck only to slow down a little up the road to turn off.

Lots of things piss me off driving. but the one that really annoys me is when you let someone out and they dont say thanks .i.e wave of the hand or putting on the hazard lights for a second. pisses me off to now end

I also hate assholes that don't indicate at roundabouts. Problem is you don't know which exit they are going to take.

That and the tailgating really piss me off.

I've another other thing that stops the tailgating pricks apart from going on the brakes. Since my car burns quite a bit of oil, there is often a trail of blue smoke behind me, escpailly on the motorway, but whenever there is someone tailgating me, if I just floor the accelerator pedal, a thick fog of black/blue smokes comes out the exhaust pipe! It's like a smoke screen and they nearly always back away then! :D

This one does baffle me and I see it all the time. If they didn't pull over you'd assume they were just not concentrating, but to pull straight back into the overtaking lane again when there is nothing on the inside lane..why???

What about the slow drivers who insist on driving as close as possible to the white line so as to make overtaking as difficult and dangerous as possible. Or the folks behind them who have no intention of overtaking yet tailgate so close to the car in front that anybody behind them wanting to overtake has to do a kamikaze all or nothing move...

MargeS, ever driven in Europe? Well if you haven't I'd recommend it. Sure there are some idiots there too but you will realise how bad Irish drivers are. Its the sheer volume of stupidity that you see here. I used to love driving, I still enjoy it to an extent, but I cannot get into my car these days without seeing at least one muppet do something stupid.

What about the muppets who overtake the car in front and expect oncoming traffic to pull over cos the haven't judged the distance correctly, or the ones that pull out of a junction/gateway etc in front of you and then dawdle along at 50

Particularly frequent down the country, and very unnerving at 100km/hr, are those who swing out onto N roads without stopping and use the hard shoulder as a merging lane.

Gotta agree with you there. I've driven in Italy, the country that has a reputation for crazy driving, but let me tell you they know how to drive and they have good road manners. Their motorways have just two lanes like ours but you NEVER get anyone hogging the overtaking lane. They always pull into the driving lane as soon as they have completed overtaking another vehicle. And God help you if you do happen to stay in the overtaking lane a second longer than necessary, you'll have an irate italian inches from your rear bumper flashing lights and honking loudly at you!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,183 ✭✭✭Fey!

People who can't perform proper road position at junctions, thereby blocking traffic unnecessarily.

Also people who park on the yellow junction boxes.

These are the same type of guys that overtake you within the 30mph/50kph zone (usually within the last hundred yards, when you're just about ready to floor the throttle) and then sit in front of you on the "open road". Annoys the hell out of me!

Corsa, Punto and Micra drivers. I have nightmares about getting stuck between two corsa's in traffic. Given its inevitabe that one of them is gonna brake down. Punto and Micra's cause there either the blue rinse brigade grannies who well in to there 80's and shoulodnt be allowed on the roadcause thery have glassses the thickness of there milk bottle glasses or learner drivers who crawl along at 15 kph. In the middle of the road ruling out any vchance of overtaking.

I would also like to take this opertunity to once again point out how much I hate SUV's and there owners.

SUV drivers, especially those who cite their reason for driving an SUV as "It makes me feel safe". If you're so insecure in your driving ability that you need to sit 3 feet higher than anyone else to feel safe, you should be taken off the f***ing road!

    Oh, and this one:

Sitting at the lights at a 2 lane junction, like where the Stillorgan road comes into Donnybrook.

Waiting in the right lane, lights are green but traffic is heavy, so I'm staying put, not going through the box junction until there is a clear space at the other side, so as not to end up in the yellow box obstructing anyone.

The traffic on the other side moves on a few feet, so I start across the junction, at which point the ****stick on my left rips across and darts into my lane and into the space that's been left, leaving me stuck on the yellow box!

This has happened to me a couple of times, once on a box over the Luas line. One of the few things that makes me sit on the horn for 5 minutes.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,461 ✭✭✭Max_Damage

After just driving in heavy traffic earlier on today, another thing that gets on my nerves is people resting their foot on the brake pedal when stopped in traffic. Although it is not as bad during the day, night time is the worst. Those poxy centre brake lights as well as LED brake lights would blind the fúck out of you.

    USE THE MOTHERFÚCKING HANDBRAKE!!!

Also, again with night driving, since SUV's have their headlights higher than a standard car, every time one of these goddam things is behind me, their headlights are blareing into the car, and I have to constantly adjuct the rear view mirror.

I just feel some points like delaying at a green light are petty to winge about. I've done it and had someone honk their horn at me - it's not like I did it on purpose. I'm just wondering if those who have posted gripes are guilty of doing those things themselves?
