Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

No, you're clearly being very insightful. So insightful that you can manage to critque a radio station before they've broadcast anything.

What are you using to listen to them, a crystal ball (brings a new meaning to "crystal set radio").

Say this to me slowly, they have not gone on air yet?

How do you know all this?

    FlutterinBantam>>

I can't say I'm sure what you are on about at all... but it does seem pretty irrelevant.

Either contribute something intelligent to the thread or don't contribute anything at all.

    Monkeyfudge:

My uptake on this thread was that perhaps Phantom were not actually live yet. That was based on Talliesins post .

I would respectfully suggest you make your point against the post , not the poster.

    There's the Thunderdome,if you want;)

I was making my point based on your posts, which so far in this thread have been fairly incomprehensible.

Consider this a warning. Stay on topic.

The Op posted a schedule for Phantom radio.
The second poster (who i know) wished him luck
I queried his choice of media
    he rebuffed this
I aplogised..never having heard the station..and hinted I may have wronged them
Talliesin then intimated that perhaps the station were nor broadcasting
    I queried this...and his source

    ????

On topic all the way.... :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,216 ✭✭✭✭monkeyfudge

Okay... that's a little bit clearer.

But try reading the opening post before commenting. It states that they don't launch until the 31st.

Also if you want to have friendly digs at your friends choice of radio station then take it to PM, as it just looks like personal abuse to anyone who is not familiar with your relationship.

LOL... the source is in the first post in this thread....

Now, the schedule.... Looks like a good 'un.... best of luck to all :)

"For those of you who have listened to Phantom in the past you'll find a mix of old Phantom people and some new names, some of the shows you loved and a few new ones. So here we are" ...

Kinda thought from that opening line that they were already up and running.

Anyway did not mean to stir up the hornets nest....

Ah well Phantom is an old enough station. They operated as a pirate for a good many years, but closed down so they could apply for a legitmate license.

I just hope they stick to their guns. Far too often radio stations turn into the same bland music stations after just a year or so.

Remember we used to have a radio station called 'Rock' 104?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,185 ✭✭✭Declan A Walsh

I wish the very best of luck to all at Phantom. I'm looking forward to radio with an edge and a more discerning choice of music. I'm sure sometimes that I will find it a bit too challenging for my delicate ears (I have a pretty electic taste in music - sometimes mainstream)! But, I trust I will never be able to label it as bland.

This should put it up to 2FM and TodayFM, especially during their evening and late night schedules.

As well as being a one-time pirate, it did receive two short-term licences from the BCI in the past.

Is Henry from the Moncreif show an ex-Phantom?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 835 ✭✭✭miketv

I don't think so, actually i'm fairly certain Henry has not been on Phantom although I could be proven wrong,
The most famous ex-pats are Alison Curtis (todayfm) and Jenny Huston (2fm_, I think Cormac Battle (2fm) as well but I'm very sketchy on that one

I remember them well, great shows, but I dont think Cormac Battle was ever on Phantom.

I'm getting Henry mixed up with an English sounding DJ who used to do Saturday afternoons on Phantom, he used to talk about Premiership updates.

Henry might not even be English, just a bit posh.

So what'll be the daytime music policy for Phantom then?
I'm not the world's biggest rock/metal fan but as far as Irish radio output goes I'll take anything that isn't the usual bland chart/oldies nonsense that we pick up from half a dozen current music stations...

Best of luck with it no matter what...nice to see pirates coming good....don't let the mainstream spoil the ideals the station started out with....

Cormac was indeed on Phantom many moons ago. Phantom has had a tradition of giving new on-air talent a break and, unfortunately, due to our resources in the past we had to send them onto other stations. We plan to continue this tradition by becoming a fertle patch for a new breed of radio presenters that didn't start by reading the traffic or being on a reality TV show.

And yes the English sounding DJ is scheduled to make a return ...

What about Rob Taylor, Steve Conway, and ...er...the other one? Paul Clarke?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 835 ✭✭✭miketv

Its like going down memory lane!
What about "Pearl" I believe her show was on Sunday mornings before The Anorak Hour. God she had a sexy voice!
Also was there an Alison (not Alison Curtis) on Saturday mornings way back may even been the time of Spectrum?
Think Ger Roe should start his Anorak Hour just on the history of Phantom/Spectrum and the great talent thats been through the station from the early garage days to ...oh yes good question now that they're legit can they finally announce from where the offices are? ;)

anything that does not involves current pop Irish single charts i hope!

    Hi Wertz,

Well the licence is for Alternative Rock. I wont bore you with the various sub-categories which are set out in the licence but needless to say the daytime output will be a mixture of "well known" alternative rock tunes mixed with new international and of course Irish stuff.

Silverfish, Rob Taylor is most certainly there, although the name may not be so familiar. Ditto Steve Conway and young Paul Clarke.

Mike TV, yep, Pearl will be back too and jaysus Alison on a Sunday, now that was a long time ago. We had a phase where there were at least 3 Alisons on Phantom. If only my memory wasnt so rubbish, I might be able to remember which one that was!

    Cheers,

    Pete
