For anyone out there who is worried at the prospect of buying a clocked car, there is a very simple solution: ONLY BUY A CAR WITH A FULL & VERIFIED SERVICE HISTORY. If you're buying a car without that then you're buying it on the basis that it may be clocked. It's your decision.

Totally agree. Also anyone buying an ex-uk car should spend €30 on a hpi uk check - small money to tell you if the car was ever the subject of an insurance claim, came to the attention of the police, and hopefully highlight if there is a mileage discrepancy. The brits have this thing called a National Mileage Register - mot test centres, fleet services, etc.. are supposed to update the milage records on this register every time the car is tested, changes hands, etc.. - though how effective this is I don't know.

If buying a UK Car, insist on seeing the V5, and make a note of the last owners name and address - then give them a ring and find out what milage was on it when they disposed of it. €5-6 phone call money well spent too.
