Xbox 360 vs PS2

I thought this was interesting. Have a look at the release list for PS2 vs Xbox 360 for Sept/Oct. With several big releases to come on both platforms this christmas, the PS2 is looking far, far stronger. No wonder its outselling the 'next gen' xbox.

No surprises there to be honest. With an installed base of nearly 150 million units, it no surprise that the PS2 is going to have a broader range of games. It was for this reason that the PS1 outsold the PS2 for a good 12 to 18 months after launch. It will also be the same reason that the PS2 will outsell the PS3 for a good year or two after launch.

Don't forget that the PS2 is a third of the price of a 360 and a fifth of the price of a PS3.

I can squeeze a bit of life out of my PS2 just a bit more... w00t!

Final Fantasy 12 will be a must.

360 is looking a bit bland for releases atm. Next year will be a different story however...

That's pityful... it really is.

MS should have really been gearing towards delivering a decent pre christmas package..... they could lose sales to the ps2 when they really should be looking to maximise the lead over the ps3.

Off the top of my head 360 Game Releases before xmas i would be interested in:

Splinter Cell
Pro Evo 6
Gears of War
F.E.A.R
NFS Carbon
Tiger Woods 360
Rainbow 6 Vegas

For PS2 all I can think of are Bully and Guitar Hero 2. Guitar hero 2 will be on 360 next year so i will wait for that.

Quality over quantity i say.

PS2 has been around for a while, 360 is only a young machine. Once the next gen of machines is released older machines get some fantastic titles due to the fact that developers have had a long time to get used to the hardware and to discover what it can do and so push it to its limits. I have both and I love the 360, some great titles and more will eventually arive once developers get comfortable with the development environment and once they explore the full potential of the hardware.

I think the 360 definitely needs more titles, more releases. But that PS2 list has an awful lot of filler on it too, games I wouldn't touch with a bargepole (NRA gun club? Tour paintball?).

Dead Rising was released on September 8th IIRC, that's one that isn't on the list, can't remember any others, fuzzy thursday brain.

Gears of War is looing pretty good. Is Bully not out on the 360 too? I am really looking forward to the next GTA especially since (apparently) they will be releasing two extra chapters for it on Xbox live market place a few months after it has been released. I am glad sony no longer have a monopoly on the GTA series. I was not too sure about Saints Row when I first played it but the more I get into it the more I like it.

And that statement alone should render this thread pointless.

Granted MS need to pull their trousers up in terms of game releases, but the next 6 months will be HUGE for the 360.

Reason ps2 has so many releases, is because the ps3 isn't out till next year, sony are covering their asses well with all these releases.

Only games I'm really interested in on PS2 are Bully and GH2.
Oh and also FF12 and Okami, but we will be waiting a couple of months after the year end for those bad boys to show up.
Will be investing in a 360 this yuletide season. Think it is finally starting to show a strong list of games (Oblivion, DR, GoW, Splinter Cell et al). But wait til next year, thats when release dates will pick up. In the first half of the year there should be Assasian's Creed and Bioshock, and to be honest, if that was all on the release dates, id be happy.

Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Vegas is out November 14, 2006 on PS2. Next R6 is confirmed for PS2 also.

Splinter Cell on the 360 was developed at an entirely different studio to the ps2 version, granted it's the same game, but it was specifically developed seperatly to get the best use out of the 360, and wasn't just ported to a "higher res" :rolleyes:

Fair enough if they are two totally different games; different models, different textures, different cutscenes, different engine etc.

Otherwise it is just a port, like just cause was, isnt it?

These I didnt know. Team Xbox review said scarface was xbox 1 only. Id kinda expect all these above to come out on next gen though, not for PS2 to be marginally better a year into the next generation. I wonder will some get a PS3 release?

Like the other splinter cell games, the ps2 ones were smaller levels designed for that console.

xbox and pc were what the developer really wanted.

Splinter Cell is out tomorrow and is getting fantastic reviews from the few that have it.

PGR3 is addictive and definatley worth getting at the price you can get it for (€440 Xbox360 Prem+ PGR3 + Wireless controller)

Well one thing to remember is the PS2 wasn't so hot until the first price drop. Thats when people started buying and thats when it became the platform for developers as it was a bitch to develop for initially.

PS3 is a bitch and has feck all fanbase this Xmas and feck all games too so PS2 is still really Sony's main console worldwide for this Xmas and probably for at least the next 6 months they will rely on it to stop 360 sales. It's working to some extent but a lot of people are moving all the same to 360 like my brother who wouldn't have considered 360 previously.

The PS2 should have Nintendo worried however. At a lower price point and with more games, it offers everything Nintendo has except a controller and Virtual Console. There could be little incentive for people to buy any console this Xmas but it's all just speculation at the moment.
