all the online diy ups guides involve a transformer, a big battery and a inverter.

But i think that a transformer, and inverter would have huge losses and it would all be converter back down again inside the pcs power supply

anyone ever thought about fitting one (or two 12v+6v) of those small sealed lead acid cells from into an old pc's case (say a underclocked amd passive cooling, laptop hard drive), this would give you much longer runtime, not much use to some because the screen would be off, but a lot of us have or pc doing stuff while were not on it (torrents, media center taping shows, ect)

    anyway
need to seperate its output into
    12v easy
5v well 6v would be easy, wonder would it work at that
3.3v that will involve a bit of electronics any suggestions

also we'd need a few relays to cut off all the different voltages so you can turn the pc off
