Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

i'm reinstalling my os's at the moment, want to stock windows xp/ubuntu on a 40 gig drive.

I tried this before and it borked my xp, couldn't load it so i gave up. I read that ubuntu does it automatically for you...but then i read these 5 page tutorials on how to do it manually, which is the best way?

All modering linux installers will really do this for you, its just an entry in your grub/lilo config file, doing it manually shouldn't need a 5 page tutorial.

    just :
    1) Install XP first, though ensuring to only allocate 20 - 30 gig or whatever to your NTFS partition, 15gig is probally a nice figure, then 10gig vfat/fat32 partition(though linux will probally be needed to make this)
    2) After XP is installed, put in ubuntu/deb/fedora install cd and let it install away on the remaining free space.

When you reboot from the linux installer you should get a menu prompting you to boot a windows os or to go into linux. These days probally a nice grub gui.......

how can i allocate a set amount of space during the windows install?
OK, put your XP Cd in, boot from it.

When it comes to the part about partitions (asks you to create a partition for Windows to be installed on) select the option to manually create a partition and specify it as however large you want, say 25GB for Windows and create that. This will leave 15GB of unpartitioned space.

Go ahead and install Windows on that.

When Windows is installed, restart and boot from your Ubuntu CD. When it comes to the part asking you about partitions choose the 15GB unpartitioned space and choose automatically use free space or whatever the option is..

    Easy peasy
