    NEWSFLASH!

Well we had a big pow-wow about what the first song should be and we knew that sooner or later you guys and gals would have this debate as well. So we decided, what better way to open Phantom 105.2 then let you nominate the song that will be the first played on 105.2!

Not only, that if you make a nomination we'll put you in a draw to win tickets to the Phantom 105.2 Launch Party at the Village on October 31st and if you are one of the people who nominated the chosen song you could be getting a shiny new iPod as well!

So here's how to do it~

    http://www.phantom.ie/firstsong.htm

And don't forget to come back here to discuss your nomination and why!

Phantom 105.2 will go on-air at 12 midday on October 31st! Tell your friends.

What was the last song played when the old station went off the air? You should play that song.:D

Or even play the first song that was played on the old station.

It was by "McLusky" and was called "to hell with good intentions" from thier fantastic 2nd album "McLusky do Dallas" unfortunatly they have since split I highly recomend that album or else they have a singles collection called "Mcluskyism" also out which may be a good place to start

The first time that they got a temporary license the first song they played (i.e. ttheir first legal transmission) was I Fought The Law by The Clash, which was very apt. To be honest, I have no idea what the first one should be this time.

Just so long as it isn't The Boys Are Back In Town by Thin Lizzy! (Now I bet loads of people will nominate it as I gave them the idea!)

I nominated We Just Won't Be Defeated by the Go! Team, for two reasons:

    1. On account of Phantoms battle to get the license and the subsequent appeals.

    2. I saw the Go! Team last night. They were awesome.

Now, guess which was the main reason!

I'm going for the Guillemots, We're here

Maye the start of the new area shouldn't be harking back to the licence battle or the past in general.

Phantom won. They're going live in less than a week. They're not the plucky upstart rebels anymore, they're Dublin's alternative music station and looking back seems small when they should be thinking big.

And We're here is a big song.

I voted 'Are You Ready' by Thin Lizzy. It's how the greatest rock band this country ever produced used to start their gigs and get everybody in the mood. Straddles most of the ideals that Phantom are all about - Irish, rock and upbeat.
Forget the past, the good guys won, no need to gloat.

That said, I'd have no complaints about the suggestion above of 'Rock And Roll Radio' by The Ramones, if only for that spoken Intro: 'This Is Rock and Roll Radio!'.
