    From the NARGC Website
    ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

The 38th Annual General Meeting of the NARGC took place in The Tower Hotel in Waterford on Saturday and Sunday, October 21st and 22nd last. It was a powerful occasion and one of the best AGM's ever on record.

National Chairman, Eddie Kelly from Cavan got the show on the road and initially Tony Caulfield, Chairman of Waterford RGC welcomed everyone. The AGM was formally opened by Mr Michael Keane, County Chairman of Waterford IFA. In a powerful address, Mr Keane alluded to the historic closeness between the NARGC and farmers nationwide, a closeness he said which will continue for time immemorial.

The new Officers for the coming year are largely unchanged, the only amendment being Gerard Burns from Waterford having been elected as the new National Game Development Officer in a tightly fought contest with the outgoing GDO, Turlough Coffey from Wexford. For the positions on the National Executive, Richie McLoughlin from Longford did not seek re-election due to educational studies he is currently undertaking and Ray Devine from Mayo was a star favourite replacement for him. The elected Trustees of the Association are Gerard Hayes from Limerick, Joe O'Loughlin from Clare and Joe Hosey from Laois.

But the whole tone and tenor of the AGM were of great cohesion, consolidation and unity throughout. There wasn't a whimper of dissent on any issue, perhaps largely due to the fact that the two dissident RGC's have now been removed from the Association and were ably replaced by fellow county men who have their spirit in the right place.

The 2007 AGM will be hosted by Galway Game Hunting Association and what a task they now have to measure up to in order to match the superb show put on by the men (and women) from Waterford RGC. The writer understands that Ger and Kay Burns from Waterford did trojan work in organising the 2006 event and indeed signs were on it for there were hundreds of spot prizes and a superb menu put on by the Management and Staff in The Tower Hotel.

That most charming, courteous and ever-eloquent MEP, Brian Crowley gave an after-dinner speech that rendered him a long applause and a standing ovation at the end. What a speaker Brian is. I heard semi-inebriated men talk in sheer awe in the early hours of Sunday morning about Brian's ability to speak with such fluency and knowledge on the principle issues close to the hearts of all NARGC Members. And there wasn't a note or a prompting page in sight; no, just passionate words straight from Brian's heart and intellect. Chairman Eddie Kelly described Brian's address as "the best after-dinner speech he ever heard". What a accolade from Chairman Kelly.

With a very hard act to follow, former RTE Reporter and latterly Fianna Fail Press Secretary, Sean Duignan give a most humorous speech but promise as he did, he failed to clearly identify to the audience WHO would form the next Government. If Sean's aspirations come true we know who he hopes for but if his wife Marie's political colours hold true, then it'll be a completely different story !

Local Waterford group "Seattle" provided great after-dinner music and with such a fine meeting and meal behind them, it didn't take many seconds for National Safety Officer, Jim O'Connor to start the dancing off, quickly followed by all and sundry.

What a meeting, what a meal, what speeches, what dancing ? In short, what a spectacular AGM this was.......
Great to see everyone is getting on...!!

Just one note those anyone know what this is about from last year?

There is a long running dispute between the top brass of the NARGC and members of Kildare and North Tip. I know in Kildare less than half the clubs stayed with the NARGC which was a founding county of the NARGC.
It was handled very badly by the NARGC which left a very bad feelings with long term grass root members in both counties and the association. I was a member for over 10 years and to be honest will not join them again.
I got a letter along with every other member of both counties telling me for no apparent reason I was no longer a member. Then a total refusal to meet members and explain what was going on and why such actions were taken.
    Total bully boy actions.
