I am looking to buy a drivers side airbag kit for a 1999 Hyundai Coupe.

Can anybody advise the cheapest place to get this (even secondhand).

The main dealers would charge outlandish prices so I dont even want to go there.

    Thanks in advance

When it comes to safety equippment like airbags I would get the job done by experts. Imo the best people for this would be the main dealer. I don't think you can buy a DIY airbag kit and I would not trust one fitted even if you could. What if it doesn't deploy when needed and the passenger sustains serious injuries or worse still dies? It might save a few euro but it could cost a life.

On another note you would have to inform your insurance company and they will require a written report that the safety device and it's installation meets the manufacturer's specifications

I'd be surprised to learn that there is such a 'kit' available.

I'd be inclined to agree with bazz26, go to a main dealer and don't compromise safety.

To buy a replacement airbag you have to buy the full steering wheel + bag. This has to be fitted professionally as the airbag system has to be "primed" after installation otherwise it will not deploy in an accident. To replace the passenger-side airbag you need to replace the whole dash!

AFAIK There is a specialist airbag company around Dundalk but I can't find their number now, perhaps someone else on here knows them (or others).

Given the standards of servicing in many "main dealers" these days I'd be happier to go to a specialist than any of the Main dealers round my way...

    Cheers for the replys
There is a specialist who does the job in Cork who the main dealer recommended to me. It was him that said there were kits available for about half the price of dealer items as I would need the airbag , module and new belts.
Theres between €500 or €600 labour involved in fitting the items
