Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Evening all,

Just wondering if anyone has tried out the wobbly windows with the 6.10 release, and if so how have you found it?

I haven't used XGL/Compiz on Ubuntu, but I have it running on Freespire, so it should be much the same. I've had it running since about august, and love it :). By now i've completely given up using alt tab, and just flip sides on the cube instead.

Some of the features are completely pointless though, such as the water or rain.

I've also found it has problems with some games, Wesnoth and Torcs being the main two. It seems to have problems with opengl rendered text, and causes some visual glitches, but no crashes so far.

You'll definitely need a decent gfx card though, it'll struggle a bit with intel chips.

[edit] Also I booted into winxp for the first time in a few months last week, and after using xgl/compiz, xp seems horribly outdated and ugly.

I tried XGL/Compiz quite a while back on 6.06. There were still a few glitches but a lot of work has been done since then and the current combination of XGL/Beryl should be a lot more stable. I've seen the latest XGL/Beryl setup on a couple of other distros with no issues so I'd assume the same would be true for 6.10. There should be plenty of decent step by step guides online if you want to try it out.

I also know someone who has it working fine on a laptop with a relatively low end graphics chipset so it is possible to squeeze onto some lower end hardware.

I got Berly working on the 6.10 beta (don't use Ubuntu anymore) through AIGLX with my radeon 9600's free (as in freedom) 3d driver (which would be used by default - I didn't install fglrx, never do :)) - works perfectly.

Metacity 2.16's effects would do me fine - all I really wanted was real transparency in gnome-terminal.

I've had AIGLX/Beryl running on Ubuntu 6.10 Beta 1 on my Vaio for a while now (3 weeks or so)
It performs much better than XGL/Compiz on the i915 in the lappy. Some of the effects are a bit ott though, so they got dumped once the novelty wore off.

Playing with XGL/Beryl at the moment... not bad... but then not exactly super-useful either.

I had compiz on my ubuntu 6.06 but switched it off as it was pretty unstable. Looked pretty though.

I did a clean install for my 6.10 system and will probably not install it again.
