    hi all

bought a 01 VW passat a few weeks back.
of late i have noticed that the car has started pulling to the left on straight roads.

the tyres are all the same psi, tracking/balancing just done

anyone have any reason as to why this would happen (and please do not say that it is the power steering pump, as that would be a balls)

    cheers

Has this occured since the tracking was done? It is not unheard of for people who provide this service to be completely incompetent and leave the car in a worse state than it was when they started.

It definately is not the powersteering pump, that failing would just make the car hard to steer. It could be worn suspension bushings.

Could be the tracking was not done properly as maidhc says, but perhaps the tyres have "learned" a pattern from when the tracking was off ? And they are now trying to pull the car into their own line. To fix that, you need to either wear the tyres down or else replace them.

If it is that, you can tell easily by putting your hand on the tread and moving back and forth across the tyre. If it's not smooth (ie. the treads are "feathered" ) then that's the problem

The third pic here explains it better:

It'll feel smooth in one direction, and like "saw tooth" in the other
