Activision have announced the UK release dates for the latest title in the series of World War II shooters, Call of Duty 3.

On November 10th, X-box 360 console owners will be the first set of gamers who can run to their closest store to purchase the next era in the Call Of Duty series, Call Of Duty 3. PlayStation 2 enthusiasts will have to watch in envy and continue to wait a further 2 weeks until November 24th, before the game is available for sale.

The Nintendo Wii release date is somewhat strange to say the least, the game is scheduled for released on December 1st, but the console is not set to launch in Europe until December 8th. Nintendo owners will have to shelf their purchased game for at least 1 week before being able to experience the next edition in the series of World War II shooters.

The PlayStation 3 version will be available for purchase hopefully some time during March next year, together with the console. However the European release date for the PlayStation 3 certainly does not appear to be stable, so who knows when we will be able to relive the "Normandy Breakout" through the PlayStation 3.

Unfortunately Call of Duty 3 will only be available on next gen consoles; there are no plans to make a PC version which has left the PC gamers who love the Call of Duty series disappointed.

Indeed, very disappointing if true... But I don't think it is... I mean it's throwing money down the drain not to release it on the PC! Unless it's Microsoft who schemed up some evil plan to get people to buy the XboX360... Wouldn't surprise me...

I love COD & UO (COD2 passes the time when I'm really bored). However can the makers of this WW2 shooter not come up with different ideas.

I for one am tired of storming Omaha beach, fighting in Stalingrad, taking the Reichstag etc etc etc.

Why don't they make some missions from the German side, e.g. Blitzkrieg through France up to Dunkirk, the Battle of Monte Cassino where the German Paratroopers held off 13 attacks from the allies, the Battle of the Bulge (where they kicked ass), the Battle of the Seelow Heights outside Berlin where the remnants of the German armies almost broke the back of the Russian army.

It would breathe new life into this franchise which is getting a little stale,

Although, if they move the action to the Pacific fighting the Japs, I'd walk away from COD. Does anyone remember the rubbish that was Medal of Honor Rising Sun?????

CoD3 on the console wont be released on the pc afaik, But when a new cod is released on the pc, it wont be released on the consoles.

I think it has something to do with the studios that develop the game.

I agree with you there Prosperous Dave! Playing some missions from the German side would indeed be a welcome change! However, the fact that CoD is developed in the US probably means we will never see such a thing... As far as the americans are concerned, WWII games can only be developed with Ally victory in mind... A real shame... :(

    I didn't even go near it... And I'm happy I didn't! ;)

So are you saying 2 different software development companies are responsible for the 2 different platforms? If this is the case, who is in charge of what? Is the PC version of CoD3 currently in development?

Off the top of my head COD on the pc is done by Infinity Ward and the xbox version is done by Treyarch.

I sort of ignore it but there's a fair element of poe faced patriotism in CoD, BiA and MoH. WWII is sacred for Americans - it's the war that 'all' Americans can be proud of and it's without controversy. It's an idealised battle of good versus evil.

And in the political climate in America today, mowing down all American heroes wouldn't go down so well.

Still, I totally agree with you. Maybe it'll take a developer from another country to give it a wack.

Pc owners were a bit stiffed on COD3, its a pity about it, I played the 360 one the other night and first 2 missions seem really good, graphics are a big step up from cod 2 (on 360 anyway, ive unfortunately never played it on a high end pc, would love to!) and the multiplayer seems good.....

Id say it might be ported to vista maybe? (Wild speculation!)

and played it all last night.

You're right, the graphics are a big step up. The gameplay is pretty much identical.

But I have a few niggles:
    - It is extremely scripted. Most computer games are ham in the extreme. But at they allow you to skip those scenes - especially in a game like COD where the cut scenes are really of little import. But you can't. You have to sit through them everytime.
    - The addition of the physical struggle is pathetic. It is scripted beyond belief. You can't avoid it even when you know where it's going to happen. You walk around the corner, he jumps on you, then you have to hit the right and left bumpers like you're playing an old Olympic game on the Atari.
    - It's quite buggy. Weapons sinking through the floor, enemies getting stuck in mid air, getting jammed between your allied soldiers who pin you in even when an MG42 is raining fire down.

But if you liked COD2 you'll like COD3.

There'll be a pc version of cod next year sometime id imagine. Played some more last night, single player is good, but not great, some really irritating missions with the poxy french resistance. I know the yanks didnt single handedly win the war, but i just wish theyd cut the crap out of this game (aka, every mission that isnt an american one) instead of making you slog through the sh!to to get tot he good aprts.
The multiplayer really is awesome tho, so much better than cod2 its unbelievable. Makes cod2 look like MOH:AA

Whilst the French accents are Inspector Clouseau-esque, I don't see why they're such a big problem? It varies the gameplay somewhat and tries to give a more expansive view of the campaign.

The more I play this game the more restrictive it feels. The feeling of being boxed in is really tangible at points eg. the mission where you have to hold a factory. There is a warehouse across the road with gaping holes in it and it's full of Germans. You have to walk past it to escort a guy who'll blow up a tank for you. But you can't enter the warehouse. Despite the fact that it's got huge holes in the wall with a German 1 foot from you. Moments like this really shatter the illusion.

my problem with them was i found them to be really boring and a real pain in the arse to complete, i hadnt even started complaining about th cliche ridden stereotypes..
