hey lads, i been using ntl 6meg connection for the last year, and its been fine! but recently the ping has started skyrocketing, was just wondering what might be the problem there?

is there anything NTL can do about this? coz its all i use the internet for and its annoying the **** out of me

    its gone from a steady 30 right up to 100 - 150

oh yeah and its not spyware + firewall coz i recently got my new pc and it didnt have anything accept steam installed on it

Its because NTL started peering to amsterdam not too long ago which means that if your playing a game on an irish server it has to go to holland and then back to ireland. Lots of people here are not happy with it, Theres a topic with more information than I could provide here. http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2054984564

it looks like its peering back through the uk
tracert here to irish sites seems to be going that way

my pings are still rubbish though

One of my mates lives in Tallaght and he has the same problem, has been playing online games for the past 2 years and never had a problem, the past while his ping has gone massive and he keeps getting kicked from most servers on many different games!!!

Im in Tallaght myself and ive have had ntl bb since 2001 and never had any problems with pings until the change over to upc, since august my pings to uk and european servers are on average 100ms higher than what they should be - example, american players on that particular server have the same ping as me (150-200ms) or in some cases lower, while uk and european players are in the 20-50 ping range - its frustrating, but i dont want to change from ntl as it has always been a good service, but over the last 2-3 months it has been terrible and my patience is honestly starting to wear thin at this point.
