It seems a website called "eubrowser" is trying to register as many word .ie domains as possible. For example, love.ie, sexy.ie, adult.ie, bebo.ie, irishindependent.ie etc. They all redirect to eubrowser.

I thought the IEDR were supposed to stop that kind of carry on?

Thats very strange, the IEDR should'nt allow this, thats the reason they exist!

EUBrowser have basically found a loophole in the IEDR rules, which is why the domains were registered.

Cant the domain be taken back by IEDR if they feel they that the register does'nt have any legal rights to own the domains???

Yes, i think they can. The owners of trademarks or copywrights have to complain first though.

Stats for EUBROWSER.COM as of 01/October/2006.
    .ie total: 518
    .com total: 7
    .net total: 2
    .org total: 3
    .biz total: 3
    .info total: 2
    .eu total: 5 (est)
    .co.uk total: 5 (est)

It is clearly a .ie targeted cyberwarehousing operation. EUBROWSER.COM exploited IEDR's lax and incompetent management by using Registered Business Names or combinations of words from them to register .ie domains.

Disband the IEDR - they don't have a clue.

Yes. The rights holder has to lodge a complaint first however through WIPO:

    Decisions to date:

They're mentioned in the Sunday Times today (I can't find an online version!)

I posted a couple of quotes from the article here:

It was a hell of a headline and it will upset the Digital Hubby people. The big question is whether ComReg will exercise its powers over this and deal with the problem. As the WIPO/IEDRP rulings have demonstrated, there is a pattern of bad faith and abusive registrations.
