Three out of four participants believe the operating environment for business here has changed, with 42pc of the total sample believing it has improved significantly - ten times as many as those who think it has disimproved significantly.

Despite this overall optimism, the research of CPA members - undertaken by Amarach Consulting during October - has highlighted a number of key concerns facing the industry that are likely to impact on the overall business climate.

The lack of broadband availability remains a key concern for accounting professionals (61pc) and is one which needs urgent addressing - particularly outside the capital.

"Although there has been a considerable increase in IT expenditure over the past year, the lack of broadband accessibility remains one of the highest concerns to members.

"Despite this, 67pc of respondents will increase their investment in IT next year, compared to 3pc that predict no increase in their IT spend," Mr Ó Feinneadha said.

Another nail in the coffin of “No Demand”. Expect ComReg to claim that the 61% don’t know current BB pricing so QED do not actually want BB.

I expect the average small business user across the country wouldn't worry if broadband cost them €30, 50 or 70 per month. Price, within reason, is not an issue for business users - many of them just can't get the service at all because eircom has wasted its corporate resources on dividends, fees and interest payments rather than investing in the network.
