Try this: ring them every single day, on the hour, every hour, until you hear back from them.
There's no other way to get through to those bloody monkeys on the phone. :/

Try ringing them and telling them that the service is so bad that you're switching to Smart Broadband! That'll get their attention!

[NOTANADVERT]Whether you do switch or not afterwards is a separate decision....[/NOTANADVERT]

Is this any good to you?

    Line Attenuation 20/11 dB

    re: your line attenuation

the 20 is great the lower this number the better
but the 11 (SNR) is borderline (important for gaming).

This page should explain the numbers

Thats all very well except the BB support is a premium rate phone number and you'll end up giving Eircom a small fortune all for nought. The customer support stinks, they never get back to you or give any explaination as to why you speeds/pings have gone down. If only there was a decent alternative. IMO I do not think BT are an alternative as they use the same lines that Eircom do and what is worse Eircom own the lines/exchanges so if there is a problem and you go to BT all you are doing is adding a middle man(BT).

In that case, Smart is probably the best option; they don't use eircom's lines and it's a freephone support number.

Downside is that you have to change phone number :(

The '11' figure is his upstream attenuation, not his SNR.
Going by those stats (20/11), which are excellent, I'd be surprised if his SNR was below 35dB. He must be within a stones throw of the exchange.

Yeah i posted my stats here months ago and everyone said they were excellent too.
Yeah im less than quarter of a mile from exchange maybe closer.

Ah FFS i give up,ingame pings to Irish and UK server are now 300ms.
Is this got to do with peak times or what guys?
So pissed off its untrue, ive been paying 55 euros per month for a decent service the last 2 years now, these past 2 months are a joke.
Eircom and BT are the only options in my town, isnt BT just a resold eircom package?
I see i can avail of digiweb broadband, these any good?

I would suggest ditching eircon. Although BT use eircoms lines, and eircoms equipment in the exchange, they connect customers to their own network, which seems to be much faster then eircoms.

    ping www.boards.ie
    min/avg/max - 24/25/26

    Downstream:
    Margin: 40db
    Attenuation: 18db

    Upstream:
    Margin: 19db
    Attenuation: 12db

Will eircom impose any penalty on me for this change if i go ahead with it?
Will i have downtime while i change over?

If you're outside your minimum contract term there will be no penalty

Not if it's done correctly. Ring BT sales and they will send you out the transfer paperwork (DTAF). Do not cancel Eircom until you are live with BT.

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 14,710 Mod ✭✭✭✭Dcully

Didnt relaise i could be live with both?
I thought BT would insist i cancelled with eircom first?

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,042 ✭✭✭kaizersoze

It's all the same broadband so you won't really be live with both. It's only an administrative change so there is nothing 'physical' to be done at the exchange or anything. If you cancel Eircom first they will remove BB from the line immediatly. Then you'll have to get a cancellation number from Eircom and give it to BT with your order. You'll be without BB for at least 10 working days while BT get Eircom to re-setup BB on your line.

The transfer is simpler and seamless. When you go live with BT and log on for the first time it effectively cancels Eircom BB. But if you don't contact Eircom and cancel then they will continue to bill you eventhough you're no longer with them.
