Sweep picking and those damned Arpeggios !!

I've been practising these techniques for months on end and Im still finding it hard to build up speed while sweeping down !! Going back up the strings is much easier, any help ?

EDIT : I'm trying D minor and D major using 5 strings.

What i found helped for me was building up speed on the 1st 3 strings only and then gradually moving on to 5 strings. However In the end i had to give them up completely cause you are forced to use economy picking. I use alternate picking exclusively these days but still find myself falling into the economy trap every now and again. You can still do arpeggios with alternate picking but it is very difficult.

Tried using one last night, pretty handy. Just a little hard to count the beats while playing :P
