Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I wouldnt mind Keith Fahey signing for City. Great deadball player and would fit in to the style we play.

    DROGS PART COMPANY WITH FAHEY
Drogheda United have parted company with winger Keith Fahey.

The 23-year-old midfielder is believed to have been involved in a bust up with manager Paul Doolin and has now left the club he joined just last July.

Fahey has played 10 games for the Drogs this season but is now on the look-out for a new club.

    Who else'd take him?

He should never have left Cork City. He was voted player of the season and left for a few extra quid to the Homeless Hoops in Dulbin.

Blessing in disguise cause we now have Joe Gamble who is a an even better player than reynolds was for us.

He'll be at home at Waterford. The comfort zone will do him good.

It will make the next City match more passionate anyway.:D

SPEAKING after he saw his side slip to a 1-nil defeat to Bohemians tonight, St. Patrick’s Athletic manager John McDonnell confirmed his interest in bringing both George O’Callaghan and Keith Fahy to Richmond Park.

O’Callaghan is currently in dispute with Cork City manager Damian Richardson and McDonnell said, “I’ve heard that he is not going back to Cork. The club have made contact with Cork and they have told us that he is still their player. If he is available we would love to bring him here. During the transfer window we’ve let Glen Larsen, Vinny Perth, Lee Roche and Anto Flood go, so there are funds there if we can get him.”

McDonnell also confirmed that he is in talks with Keith Fahy who has been released by Drogheda, “I’ve to meet with Keith again tomorrow. He is a free agent now, he is talking to another couple of clubs which is a bit strange because some of them are in dispute over players wages so I don’t know how they are speaking to him. It doesn’t make sense, we’re trying to get a couple of players in but it seems that some clubs want all the players.”

With St. Pat’s looking to bridge the gap to the top four, McDonnell admitted that he was worried about a lack of creativity in his midfield, “There are still a couple of weeks left in the transfer window but Keith is definitely somebody who I would like to get in. We need a bit of guile in midfield and a bit of cleverness, he is a good player and if he is available, well and good.”

Despite Paul Keegan and Trevor Molloy scoring six league goals apiece this season, McDonnell also admitted that he could be in the market for a striker, “We may need somebody up front, we might need someone to stick the ball in the net. In saying that, the two lads have done well but is well ok? We’re fifth or sixth in the league, we want to be putting pressure on the teams ahead of us.”

Talking about the game, McDonnell refused to be too despondent with the result after losing to Bohs, “We said we’d have a right go at them from the start. We tried a different system with our midfielders getting into the box but to give away a goal right on half time is a disaster. In fairness to the lads, they went out and gave it a good go in the second half, Devlin did alright up front for them, he is a clever little player. We finished really strong, missing the peno doesn’t help obviously. If we’d went in at half time, 1 nil down and we were being battered, we’d have a serious think about it but we weren’t, so we just have to keep going the way we are but our finishing let us down again.”

Another manager looking to delve into the transfer market is Bohemians’ Gareth Farrelly. He continues to cast an envious eye at Shelbourne’s Glen Crowe although he admitted that he hadn’t yet talked to the player, “Glen is a fabulous player and I’d love to have him back here. The club have talked to Shelbourne about him but we just have to wait and see for the moment.”

    Not known for his tact:)

George was in 125 during the week along with Fahey (who was at the game last night) and another player who shall remain nameless :D

We can afford those 2 and another but not sure what the Fee situation is with Cork, anyone know how much he is on?

He's probably doing pretty well down at City, but Drogheda were set to offer him more.

I couldn't see George playing for Pats tbh.

    from stpatsfc.com

St Patrick’s Athletic have enquired about the availability of Cork City’s George O’Callaghan, but have been told he is not for sale.

The 26-year-old City striker is currently on leave from Cork on the orders of manager Damien Richardson after the pair fell out.

Boss 'Rico' insists that O’Callaghan is on time off for personal problems, though the player claims that he had a training ground bust up two weeks ago with the manager.

St Pat's boss John McDonnell confirmed that he did contact Cork about the star’s availability and was told that he is not for sale.

Seems Cork board want the pair to make up, hope they do, if not suppose we could take him be handy to have on the bench :D

Strange one. He has been a very good manager for them, brought in alot of players, and Cobh are doing relatively well in Div 1.

MCDONNELL TO GIVE FIT AGAIN GROGAN A CHANCE
Pat’s boss John McDonnell hopes to sign ex-Irish youth start Kevin Grogan this week.

McDonnell unveiled new signings Keith Fahey and ex-Leeds United midfielder Brenton Leister yesterday, with Fahey likely to start against Longford Town tonight.

Former Manchester United trainee Grogan has been told he can resume playing following a career-threatening pelvic problem.

‘If Kevin can prove his fitness we’ll sign him until the end of the season,’ McDonnell said.

    .

Anyone remember poor Kevin? Mc Carthy and Ferguson thought very highly of him more about him here http://indigo.ie/~bvr/Kevin1.htm

Cracking player just got a horrible injury.

    What?

Was he holding out for more money or something.

I don't know much about Ramblers, do you think they'd make the cut for the top division, if we see teams being cherry picked?

^ He wouldnt go into it on the radio a while ago, but I think his team decisions were being interfered with from the board room.

How the **** does that work? Seriously  who makes these contracts?

    kdjac

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 21,296 ✭✭✭✭gimmick

Nothing contractual about it. What I am saying is that City want his wages off their books if there is no resoloution. But City also dont want to see him at another eL (ie rival) club. But if he is to go to another eL club, City dont want them getting a contracted player for free, therefore are fully within their rights to ask for a fee.

Now if Southend, or some other cross channel club want him, they are not rivals in a competition sense, therefore they take his wages, and City are none the worse off. Obvioulsy a fee either way would be good, but if he isn't going to play for City anymore, I would prefer him playing in England, than against us.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 20,346 ✭✭✭✭KdjaCL

Tbh after tonight i wouldnt want to see him in a Pats jersey, the club are rumoured to preparing a one and only 80k bid (released 6 players to pay his wages how much is he on  ). If they dont sign him they will try sign another player who shall remain nameless. If both of these deals fail we lost 6 midfielders for nowt and gained 1 who is coming back from a career threatening injury and another 2 who were signed after trials.

Will city let him walk to England and refuse 80k ? Regardless of him going to another EL club Lenoox appears to be an astute buisnessman and 80k is 80k.

What time is his meeting with Lennox tomorrow :D

Saviours are never free, he ended his career with us in the game vs you lot, all he had to do was run and hold the ball and we would have won but no he was checking mars bars wrappers to see if there was any left.

2 Trialists in with City for the last week - Keith Shevlin, 24 year old striker, who was on a 'soccer' scholarship in the States for the last few years. Had trials with Dundee and Dunfermline before coming over here.

The other is 19 year old Sean Kelly who was with Arsenal for 2 years. He can play anywhere across the midfield. He played 30 games for Yeovil last season and had a contract offer taken away from him at the 11th hour.

Certainly the latter I have heard good things about.

Great player in fairness and a fans favourite. Wears his heart on his sleeve.

    So thats

    Doyler
    Kearney
    Danny Murphy

4 top EL players that will have left and not replaced.

    Kearney

    top EL player

He has shown nothing of that since coming to Shelbourne.

However, I was just commenting at last night's game, as he was warming up, that he could come good for us. But then someone said that it depends on how long Fenlon gives him at the club.

Since this is the rumours thread, apparently the first thing Eddie Gormley did when took over at Bray Wanderers was terminate the contracts of Robbie Doyle (culminating in his move away) and Colm James (who refused and insists on seeing it out).

Good work Eddie, it's obviously paying dividends.
