I was wondering if there was a website ( like the petrol prices one) or if anyone has info on who are generally the cheapest for car tyres?
I've had a look through the forum but nothing that I can find on it.

    Cheers.

It would probably be difficult to make comparisons as you would have to factor in brands, diameter, width, profile, speed rating, summer/winter, etc. Could posters be trusted to get it right?

At least with fuel it's usually just petrol or diesel prices per litre.

That's a fair point but just looking for pointers on general prices. Not looking for anything specialist.

    Golden Pages.

I usually ring a few places. Fast Fit in Santry is usually cheapest for me (in Dublin that is).

EDIT: Just to clarify (following ruane's post) I am referring to the cheapest within the 'good' brands e.g. Good Year, Dunlop, Michelin etc. I would also avoid what are usually referred to as 'budget' tyres.

Your tyres are arguably the most important part of your car. Your brakes & steering won't work without them. Don't buy the crappiest, cheapest tyres out there just to save €50. Ask your friends what tyres they have had good or bad grip on and take it from there.
AVOID=Long-life tyres are made from a harder compound than regular tyres and have much less grip especially in the wet. I had "marshall" tyres a few years ago (205/55R16 I think). Great in the dry but like driving on ice in the wet. Had them replaced after 3 weeks driving them at huge expense.

I'd just go and get whatever big brand fits my car.

Sometimes the Main Dealer Garage can supply & fit good tyres cheaper than the kwik-fit / fast fit / advance people.

As Roughan says, eiretyres are best.

What I do is printout their prices on a sheet then go round the different major tyre centres and point out what I can get them for. It makes a big difference to what you will get quoted. Pay no more than EUR10 per tyre extra for fitting to these prices. EUR100 extra in total tops for fitting, balancing, tracking and wheel alignment if getting a set of four.

I got 17" Eagle F1 GSD3's down from EUR200 each to EUR150 each as a result of doing same. Most are robbers over here unless you show them you know your stuff and will take no nonsense.

Thanks for the comments guys. Much appreciated. Agree about the need to get good quality. I am also aware that a set of good quality tyres can vary hugely in price. I will check the sources suggested.

Dave McCann Tyres in Blanchardstown are great value for Dunlop tyres AFAIK. I got 4 205/55 R16 for €360 plus fitting & disposal.
My parents also got Dunlops for Corolla and Merc C200 there also.

I found discount tyres in rosemount in Blanch very good, excellent service and just as cheap as eiretyres. One thing that stood out was they dont use air guns to tighten the wheel nuts, torque wrench all the way.
Workshop is spotless and waiting room is v.good aswell.

I'm getting new tyres for my Discovery (255/55 R19), and immediatly went onto eiretyres to get a price for some Scorpion Zeros. They have them priced at around €275.

Armed with this information, I went into the local tyre place, and asked for a quote for the Pirelli tyres of the above size. I didn't mention anything about having another price. They had to call their supplier, and then gave me a price of €250 each!

That's a saving of almost €100 over eiretyres for all 4 :D. I was shocked and got them to order them in there and then. On reflection I guess I should have shopped around a bit more, but I was caught off guard! ;)

There's a lot of decent tyre places around, hell even Fast Fit can be reasonable if you catch them on a good day...;)

Yeh I got my tyres done there too.....drove home and went to torque the nuts only to find that they were at the correct setting already. Normally tyre fitters ridiculously overtighten them which could lead to them shearing off. I would definitely use Discount Tyres in Rosemount again. Oh and they'll also get in Vredestein tyres if you want them (the brand which has won best tyre in AutoExpress magazine the last 3 years running)

It would be hard to compile a list for all the various sizes. also fitting, balancing, and new valves are rarely included. Also, prices are always negotiable, unlike petrol/diesel, where it's much easier to compare costs

Any recommendations for places around Limerick city? Just looking at eiretyres.com but their closest fitters seem to be in Charleville :(
