At the end of the day, most Renault drivers seem happy with their cars and I'd be willing to bet that of the ones with problems, a lot buy again. If they were all breaking and were terrible to own, there wouldnt be any 2nd hand ones around and the renault dealers wouldnt have loads fo 2nd hand ones.

99 Scenic, bought new. 00 Scenic bought new. 03 Scenic RX4 bought s/hand, this year. They're not perfect, and unfortunately it doesn't seem to be possible to get a really good, nice AND 99% reliable car in one model, so there must be something about them that's right.............and the Renault has a the best mix so far. Not that I've stopped looking, mind............

You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

I worked for a Renault specialist from '89 to '96.
My experiences of renaults is not entirely positive. Yes, while they have, for example, a good suspension system (very comfy to drive) they also have a justified reputation for electrical faults and cooling system faults/failure. The interior trim is also less than robust - even for careful owners.

I would class them as 'soft' cars ...i.e. not up to the same wear-and-tear standards that Fords, VW's, Opels, etc can contend with.

Having said that, I also recall a lot of customers who swore by renaults and wouldn't consider any other brand.
It really seems to be largely just luck if you have a good experience with renaults rather than a them having a solid reputation for being good cars.

They did, however, produce some crackers over the years, e.g. the Alpine, 5GT Turbo....

Overall though, based on my experiences of them, I wouldn't buy one as my everyday car.

The Renault turbo diesel engines are about the best you can buy.

"Renault build a better car". They wouldn't have been able to say that if it wasn't true.:)

On my second Renault. it's a Megane Dynamique 1.5 Diesel. Have it since June and no probs. Previous was Megane Dynamique 1.4 Petrol, had it just over 2 years, only probs were the water pump went after the warrenty had ran out. Renault still paid for 75% of the cost of the part and labour to replace it. Excellent car to drive, very comfortable on a long journey. Prior to Renault had 4 Opels, 2 Vectra and 2 Astra, a Toyota Carina and 2 Ford Escorts.
