i was talking to him yesterday. he said he would sign.

oh wait that was my dad.

Senna played well in the first or second game in the world cup but i cant remember anything good about villareal at all in the champs league last year. they were depressing to watch in every game.

    Tonight's team vs. Oxford:

    Foster

    Bardsely - O'Shea - Silvestre - Heinze

    Ronaldo - Jones - Fletcher - Richardson

    Saha - Ole

Let's hope Jones can dominate the game tonight and force Fergie to pick him against Fulham. With Scholes possibly out, Jones needs to show his worth here.

    p.s. Ronaldo's back, beautiful to watch :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 631 ✭✭✭andrewie

Good first half. 3-1 at the break. Stunning volleye from solskjaer after 6 mins and Ronaldo volley after 14 mins. Oxford keeper couldn't stop from flethcer a minute later.

Duffy scored for Oxford after poor defending.

Jones has impressed so far. His passing has been excellent putting Ronaldo in a few times but nothing came of them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 631 ✭✭✭andrewie

4-1. Ronaldo from 20 yards, set up by Jones.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,847 ✭✭✭✭Nalz

Was 4-1 the final score lads?

    MoM?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 631 ✭✭✭andrewie

    Finished 4-1.

MoM wasn't announced but it was between Bardsley and Jones.

imo Jones deserves it. He was brillant tonight.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,894 ✭✭✭evad_lhorg

glad ronaldo got some goals there too. really hope he can settle back and score more goals. thats the only thing that will help him with the boos cause he loves to silence fans and tellin them to shhhhhh.

not that it would be too difficult to do but i think Jones might give Fletcher a run for a place on the bench. in saying that Fletcher has had a good pre season but i still dont think he has the quality to play regularly for us.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,430 ✭✭✭Sizzler

Fletcher is MUCK, apart from a fluky header against Chelsea last season he did fock all. I cringe when I see his name on the squad list each week. Lets face it lads, Jones could well be a much better bet :D

Cant wait to see the senna lad in the MF area, I hope he kicks up a stink ;)

Also cant believe we are buying Kuzsack...grrrrrrrrrrrrr what a waste when we have Foster

just saw this on the calcio italia website. what would everybody think if it happened, dont think theres much chance and you could prob get Torres and Mascherano for that money. but im a huge fan of Adriano and think he would be a great signing(i'd hate to see him leave but if he goes anywhere i hope its Utd).

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,203 ✭✭✭Attractive Nun

Not only would a £42m bid for Adriano be a horrible waste of money, but it would probably destroy the club's finances. Obviously, you wouldn't complain if Adriano came to United, he's a very good player, but he's not that good, especially since he's not proven in the Premiership. If we are willing to pay any sort of big money for a striker (of which I'm not sure we are), then I would like us to pursue Tevez - particularly as Champions' League eligibility wouldn't be an issue, so we'd have more time.

Fortunately, the Adriano thing won't happen.

Rooney and Scholes will be avialable for the Fulham game. The English FA hasn't recieved teh report from teh dutch FA in time for them to be suspended for the opener.

Rooney & Scholes free for Fulham game

If you're like me and you didnt see the goals from the match here they are

All the goals were top drawer. Apparently jones was excellent again. I hope he gets a run in the team this year.

all this Adriano talk is just rag rumours. He's not worth near 42m, he was very poor for inter last year and he wouldnt come to United either.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,430 ✭✭✭Sizzler

The mirror has joined in on the Adriano story, they have had the good "sense" to reduce his price to £30m though....bargain lol.

Seriously though, if we have that sort of money to spend why not just put it on Torres or get Tevez for a smaller fee? I would not be wholly convinced by this lad.

MANCHESTER UNITED are poised to bid for Brazilian superstar Adriano as Ruud van Nistelrooy's replacement.

United officials have been privately talking about an imminent arrival "on the scale of Wayne Rooney" and Adriano, 24 (left), has emerged as boss Sir Alex Ferguson's top summer transfer target.

Inter Milan are ready to listen to United's offer for the striker, who fell out with coach Roberto Mancini last season. And while the San Siro side will want £30m for Adriano, the fact they are ready to do business suggests Fergie may finally be successful in his quest to buy a replacement for the record-breaking Dutchman, who has joined Real Madrid. The United chief was rebuffed in his attempt to lure Spanish starlet Fernando Torres away from Atletico Madrid but knows he needs to sign a big-name strike leader to appease the Old Trafford faithful after the loss of van Nistelrooy.

But capturing the powerful Brazilian speed machine would be a major coup for Fergie and prove United are still able to lure some of the world's biggest names to Old Trafford.

Adriano, born in Rio de Janeiro, became a folk hero among the Inter fans after he returned to the club for a second spell in 2004.

Dubbed "Il Imperatore" - The Emperor - by the San Siro fans, Adriano repaid their faith with 28 goals in his first season back at the club after spells with Fiorentina and Parma, including 10 in Europe when his Champions League tally of seven was bettered only by van Nistelrooy.

Last season he managed 19 in all competitions to took his club tally to 60 in 121 games for Inter.

But Inter are ready to cash in on him after landing Hernan Crespo on a free from Chelsea - and Ferguson will want to make sure Roman Abramovich doesn't try to tempt Adriano to Stamford Bridge.

YOUNG defender Paul McShane is moving from Manchester United to West Brom as makeweight in a swap deal for Polish keeper Tomasz Kuszczak.

McShane - who spent last season on loan at Mark McGhee's Brighton - is valued at around £500,000 in the transfer and will go into Bryan Robson's Baggies on a three-year contract.

Might be a goood move for the lad?

F-in ell all them goals where brilliant, especially Solkjaers, good to see he still has it! Hope he figures a lot next season. How come they didn't have names on their jerseys? This a new thing or just because it was a friendly?

    Where is this coming from?

This wil really good piece of business for WBA. Why is fergie buying Kuszczak? Foster looks pretty good. Why not keep him on as back up?

Seems like the Diarra thing is rearing its head again.

I see Ibrahimovic has signed for Inter this morning. Will probably increase the stories about Adriano leaving. Dont care where he goes as long as United dont waste their money on the lazy git.

I rather they spent the money on a CM like Diarra instead of Adriano.

Foster is good, was great at Watford last season and Fergie wants him to go on loan there again because he will get good PL experience which he wont get on bench at Utd. Fergie said ages ago he wanted him to move back to Watford on loan. Utd need to buy a keeper before he can move thou, thats what is the delay!

Exactly and when VDS goes - the 2 fight it out for number 1 spot? Don't think Howard will be back from Everton.

What I cannot understand is why United don't get someone on loan to replace him, rather than paying £4m for a goalkeeper we don't need.

mainly because VDS doesn't have much left - and am not sure he sees Howard as staying

I still think midfield is the priority, and signing Diarra would be a great signing for the club. Still, we do lack that bit of killer instinct up front. I just hope Rossi can impress this season.

Think you will find that Fergie still rates Howard very highly, Everton wanted to buy him and he would only let him go on loan. This again is to get more experience and to build back up his confidence

Will be sad to see McShane go, think he is an excellent player, and perhaps would have made it if he came through at a different time, but there are 4 top class CB's at United, and he has Pique and Evans ahead of him :/

Paul McShane has signed for West Brom on a 3 year deal:

    http://foot.ie/forums/showthread.php?p=513067

soccerc seems to know McShane personally as if I remember correctly he's had a few interviews with him on the soccercentral site.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,617 ✭✭✭✭PHB

Ah well, I expect to see him in the premiership within two years.

Skysports.com understand that Manchester United have emerged as favourites to sign long-time target Mahamadou Diarra from Lyon.

Real Madrid have been in pole position to snare the Mali international for some time but it is believed that United have rejoined the chase for his signature and their bold move could be decisive.

Although Diarra has spoken of his desire to play for Real, it is believed that he would not turn down the chance to head for Old Trafford if the two clubs can agree on a fee.

Lyon have stressed their determination to keep Diarra, who has been a key figure in their side since arriving from Vitesse Arnhem, but they have already bagged midfielders Kim Kallstrom and Jeremy Toulalan this summer.

Furthermore, Paris Saint Germain's Modeste M'Bami is also being considered as a reinforcement for the Ligue 1 champions.

There is the belief that a deal can be agreed before the transfer deadline at the end of August as Sir Alex Ferguson looks for a long-term replacement for Roy Keane. Villarreal's Marcos Senna remains another midfielder on the Carling Cup holders' hit-list but it is understood that Diarra has been the top target all summer.

Real will also push hard for the 25-year-old's services if l'OL do agree to listen to offers but United are thought to be ready to fend off the strong rival interest.

Loan? After all the haggling that's been going on? Strange one.

Good to see the Diarra stories doing the rounds again. Although I won't believe it until I see him in a United shirt (well, seems like even that isn't enough anymore :) )

"In exchange, West Brom will get defender Paul McShane and goalkeeper Luke Steele on a permanent basis."

Another world class player signs :( , i'd say theres a 1,000/1 chance that he'll be number one man utd keeper after van der saar retires.

Kuszczak is a good signing without a doubt. But Im just thinking in terms of priorities, a GK wasnt a priority this year. AS none of us know just how much money is available we cant really say whether this was a waste of money or not.

Terrible bit of business by SAF, McShane is IMO a better player than Evens and Pique, the only thing either of them have over mcshane is height, but even at that McShane is probably just as good in the air.

Great move for McShane thought, expect him to start for Brom now, good news for Ireland aswell.

What the **** is the deal with signing a sub keeper on loan for a season? What good is that? He is never going to play.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,479 ✭✭✭wheres me jumpa

Didnt realise this was a loan deal! Well then its a good signing imo. Foster can go get a season of Prem football under his belt and we will have adequate cover while not wasting any money.

McShane was never going to break into the first team squad. Steele is no loss.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,346 ✭✭✭✭homerjay2005

i think its a good deal, finally a transfer where united get a good deal, we have one of the best young keepers around in foster, i think fergie has done the right thing here. this way we dont have to spend 4 million on a keeper. diarra talks again on sly sports news at the moment

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,894 ✭✭✭evad_lhorg

Diarra would be a waste me thinks. another overrated french league player. I think Senna and a substantial bid for torres would be great

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,203 ✭✭✭Attractive Nun

Jesus what happened to Senna being a certainty? If Diarra comes in we may end up with too many central midfielders! Senna, Diarra, Carrick, Scholes, O'Shea, Fletcher, Jones, Smith... I'm sure SAF wouldn't sign both Senna and Diarra, but if he did I'd hope we'd get rid of Fletcher (and maybe O'Shea - he doesn't really fit in anywhere anymore) and push Smith forward or Jones will never get a run out.

Like somebody said, I'll believe the Diarra thing when I see it, but I'm not even sure I'd want him for £20m+ tbh. It would certainly mean that we wouldn't be signing a decent striker, and I dunno if that's a sacrifice worth making for Diarra when we could get Senna for £3m.

I think they are all great players, but with the promise Pique is showing and Evans pre season performances I would put them ahead of McShane (we didnt see enough of him). Evans will break into first team, without a doubt, either that or he'll be another Savage :p , Platt or Beardsley(who all on Uniteds books as youngsters)
    evad_lhorg wrote:

yeah kinda agree, its not so much that he is overratted...its more true to say he'll be overpriced. Dunno what happened to Senna deal. Thought it got the green light from Spain.

I guess its better that we got the dude (SAF obviously wanted him big time) and didnt have to spend the 4m! If Utd have ANY sense they would have a price struck in the agreement that means they can have him next summer at X Price and that its fixed regardless of performance.
Cant see the lad displacing VDS tho

Lets wait and see what glorious stories the tabloids have for us tomorrow, no doubt the sun and mirror will be telling us Diarra is almost a Utd player and a deal is imminent, and Adriano is coming to clean his boots ;)

On the contrary i think its a good deal for utd. They get Kuszcak on loan for the year and get a chance to have a real good look at him. He can learn alot from a season with EVDS. Howard and Foster get a season of first team premiership football each which can only be good for their development. Meanwhile we shed some youngsters that in fairness were never going to make it at Utd.

McShane is behind Rio, Vidic, Brown, Silvestre, Heinze, Pique and Evans for a CB slot. Hes a rough diamond but is prone to defensive lapses. Lets take off the green tinted glasses for a while. Agree though, it is a great move for McShane.

McShane is a top class talent, no doubt, but he is still behind Evans and Pique, the latter especially.

He is prone to young mistakes and is unluckily small :/ But that's not it. He is a young player, isn't a special talent, just a talent. He'll make it in the championship, then move to the premiership, and then near the end of his career make one last move to a big club. He however won't ever break through the ranks and begin his career in the big club. I do however think he could well be an Ireland captain in the future, but Evans will definately be a Northern Ireland captain in the future, and Pique is going to be starting most matches for Real Zaragoza in La Liga next season, which is a real testament to his talent.

He will be back in the premiership very soon though, either with West Brom, or without another club who he'll get picked up by. Robson will teach him well.
