Basically my eircom 3mb/384kbps broadband has got incredibly slow in the evenings.
After a month of this i have enough and am looking to change.
Eircom have basically told me it is Quote "The broadband service
has been rate adaptive and subject to contention since the day it was
    launched."
Every night from 5 pm to late my connection is a disaster with ingame pings of over 300ms and terrible download speeds, even browsing is a disaster at peak times.
Im not going to pay 55 euros per month for this crap any longer.
So after 2 years with eircom i simply have to look elsewhere.
The problem is in my town Monasterevin only has eircom,BT,digiweb and imagine offer a bb service.

At this stage im wondering if i switch will i get the same problem with all providers now that Monasterevin is expanding rapidly and therefore broadband users increasing too.
Im assuming rate adaptive comes into play with all these providers?
I know bt use eircoms exchange so will BT be basically the same crap?

BT and Imagine just resell the wholesale eircom "Bitsream" product. So there'll be absolutely no change if your problem is exchange-level.

there could well be a difference for myriad technical reasons but it may be a slight improvement not a massive one.

    UTV are also available.

Do tracerts and see if it's slow at the exchange or at a different point.

You can't see the exchange within eircom's network so that's pointless. You will see the POP, which is presumably the same POP that all the other providers connect to. In my experience, the problem is always between the subscriber and the POP (if there is a problem).

Loks like the big slowdown is in Limerick not locally, if you went with anybody else it could well be better.

Interesting, reason i say is a friend has same issue and eircom support told him they were working on an upgrade in Limerick.

Switched from Eircom to BT - the speeds are similar, there is MORE downtime with BT. Also customer service is non-existent. Expect to spend 2 hours on hold to contact them about any problem from billing to speeds. I would stick with eircom if I were you. I only changed cause they were cheaper. You get what you pay for in this world.
