Having some electrial trouble with my wife's Ibiza signo. Its a 02 1.4 petrol. Now and again it throws a wobbly on the dashboard. When the car is under pressure ie, in a said gear at low revs, I hear clicking noises from somewhere around the dash, the Power Steering Light come on and the Power Steering fails. I have to turn off the engine, give it a minute or so, turn it back on and the light goes out and power steering resumes. Any idea's?

Weird - get a diagnostic check. There are lot of relays under the dash so it could be one of them. But I'd be inclined to get it checked out and take it from there.

Opel now use an electric power steering pump - but I'm not sure if this is the case with an 02 Seat.

It sounds like an electric powersteering unit alright, is the car a 1.0 litre? I know Opel had major problems with them too and were replacing them under warranty for years.

I'm afraid most manufacturers have been moving to electric power steering units for the last few years. It's not without it's problems.

it's the 1.4 Signo. I've been advised to disconnect the battery for half an hour or so to see if that clears the problem. If not it looks like the power steering motor is gone.
