Popping Coke bottles

When I opened a 500ml bottle of Coke the other day, it went "pop" and a white mist appeared in the neck of the bottle. Afterwards, the Coke was fairly flat. Has anyone else ever got one of these popping bottles of Coke, and why do they go pop in the first place?
