    is there a big differnce when it comes to employment and salerys, even though both are VETAC degrees.

    The major employers tend to have some kind of graduate recruitment programme. So assuming you've managed to get through their recruitment process you'll most likely be on a level playing field salary wise. On paper many university degrees look better than many IT degrees - but the employer has these things in mind:

    Can the person do the job?
    Can they learn new stuff from what they already know? (remember that the Tape Deck and VCR are considered old hat nowadays, yet many man-hours went into designing them)
    Will they integrate well and function in the organisation?
