Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hi

Have a machine that uses dos based software and is only capable of printing to lpt. The printer I want to print to is hanging off another machine on the network and is usb.

If it was lpt it would be no problem using

    net use lpt1: \\server\printer /Persistent:yes

What I need to know is there a way of using the net command to map to a shared Usb printer.

    Thanks in advance.

That net use command will be fine, provided you have opened the printer out with full permissions...

Cant see why it would be wrong at the minute

You could also use NET PRINT \\Server\Printer

What happens when you try to use:
    net use USBxxx \\server\printer /Persistent:yes

(Where USBxxx is the port listed & used in the driver settings)? What error?

    What OS'?

    net use lpt2 \\server\printer ?

If you need to use LPT1 I don't know if you have to delete the port in the BIOS or device manager

or is your problem that the program is expecting a generic printer and is seeing a fancy driver ?

add a new printer on the sharing machine, manufacturer microsoft / generic text only ( names vary depending on which version of windows you use ) choose lpt1 or something, then in printer properties change the port to the USB one.
    then share that driver

if that not work then check the printer can emulate text only or epson fx 80 / ibm proprint / hp deskjet etc.

after that you might be looking at virtual printers

    Thanks for the replies.

The Software has only an option for Lpt1 or Lpt2, does not know what USB is.

Found a program called dos2usb that did the trick.

    Thanks again.

I use a program called Dosprint which allows you to redirect LPTx to any installed local or network printer.

    Try http://www.andtechnologies.com/dosprint.html

It's free and works very well
