I used to be really read up on all things hardware about a year ago.
One of my primary sources was PC Xtreme magazine (RIP).
With that gone, I really don't know where else to get info.

    So....

www.theinquirer.net - The daily mail of the hardware world
    www.theregister.co.uk - Irish times

There are loads of hardware sites out there, heres 2 off the top of my head.
    www.tomshardware.co.uk
    www.bittech.net

They are like the trashy glamour rags of the hardware world.

Of course www.google.com would be the main one.

    Good man.
That's what I was looking for, a comprehensive well respected source.
Yeah google is your friend, but who knows what you're getting, etc.

    What about any magazines?

for me, its the forums, bittech has some good ones, so does xtremesystems.org and overclock.net. The users read up on all the articles then pick out the best ones and post links to them. I keep up to date that way.

Oh, and slashdot ;) can't beat slashdot

also another good thing to do is get a gmail account, then you can customize the google search page to display rss feeds from your favourite news sites. I have mine set up to display Engadget, Slashdot and Google Technology news.

I find custom pc to be brutal to be honest. It's way too subjective and they really seem to have lost the point a bit when it comes to overclocking.

Forums and websites generally tick all the correct boxes when it comes to staying informed though. Like anandtech and hexus but for some reason don't trust tomshardware as far as i could throw them.

    www.Beyond3d.com - emphasis on 3D industry

    www.realworldtech.com

    www.techreport.com

    www.digg.com

    www.technorati.com - blog search engine.

www.arstechnica.com - good site, check out the forums.

www.xbitlabs.com - Russians. Some very good testing, particularly for PSUs.

    http://www.akihabaranews.com/en/ - gadgetry.

http://www.hardwareanalysis.com/ - has a few good articles, he's recently been more focused on Audiophilia though.

http://www.mikhailtech.com/ - down at the moment. Check the WayBack Machine

Again, Tom's Hardware is a load of balls. It has a veneer of a tech site, but lacks substance and technical grit. Lots of shiney superfluous graphs though, if you're into that kind of thing.

The Inquirer is a filthy rag. I quite like Anandtech, xbit labs, hard ocp etc.
