Exactly as Blush said. Otherwise they would be a campus taxi.

I doubt it because of that alone. Sure won't all the same people just go to the 46a instead.

And it's a bit harsh to call it out of line by Dublin Bus when you don't know the reasoning behind it. It may well be a valid safety concern.
    I have been misquoted, lol!:D

    HA!

One big problem with this thread....its BS!

I regularly get the 10 between 10 and 11.30pm....how do you like them apples?

I don't think the Public Affairs Dept would be spreading BS. Well not in this case anyway:) .
Yes, they have stopped coming into campus: "The reason being, that there have been a number of anti-social behaviour incidents involving a number of students which has given us no choice but to withdraw the services."

Furthermore, "The management from Phibsboro garage from where the no. 10 operates are meeting with representatives of Belfield this week to have the matter resolved. Unless we can get assurances that this will discontinue, the buses will not operate through the campus at night.
    "

As of yet, no other routes have been a problem.

Dublin Bus have done this before, I think the 77 to Tallaght didn't go into an estate out there because of concerns over safety.

Pythia's right here, from what I can remember. I'm fairly sure that the 77 doesn't run past a certain time at Halloween anyway because of worries about fireworks.
It's understandable that the service could be withdrawn if there was concern over driver or passenger safety. Inconvenient certainly, but understandable as well

The 77 sometimes has to get a Garda escort, and as far as I know it's company policy to curtail services to areas that have proved problematic to bus drivers. Still, surely people in University should be copped on enough to act in at least a vaguely mature manner when it comes to taking the bus?

Could they expand on the anti-social behaviour thing? Surely if it's that much of a problem the whole thing should be investigated by UCD with a view to disciplinary action against whoever the offending party/parties are?

Investigate, my foot. What the hell could they prove at this stage?

What i hope will happen is that UCD will provide assurances that the 10 terminus will be watched/patroled closely by services after 10pm each night.
This is a token that I could see Dublin Bus accepting. At the end of the day, driver safety (and suing by injured drivers) benefits no one - especially DB.

removal of brackets = At the end of the day, driver safety benefits no one - especially DB.

My point is, that generally, Corporate Heads aren't usually over concerned about issues of this nature (driver safety).
But bring the brackets into play and the whole situation changes. Then you have big payouts and an impact on profits.

Perhaps if "especially DB" was bracketed also, this may have been clearer.

Just to let ye know that there was an article today in the Evening Herald about this:

Apparently the 10 has stopped coming into Belfield after 10pm, "following incidents in which students drunkenly exposed themselves to other passengers or vomited.

"Sources say they are confident that the individuals will be identifiable on the CCTV system employed on Dublin Bus vehicles.

"A source in UCD said [strong disciplinary action] will be swift once the students have been identified, adding that UCD is known for its strong disciplinary record

"A spokesperson for the university confirmed the route had been curtailed since November 9, but expected it to be fully reinstated by the week's end."

Tbh, there's a massive difference between the average estate in Tallaght and a few drunken students in UCD. I know which one I'd be more worried about... put it this way: I will NOT get on a 77 after 6pm.

I would, Id even sit down the back of the top deck. The 77N on the other hand...

Can UCD really discipline you for vomiting on a bus? Or anything else? I guess its inside the campus but i dunno.

Just seen this thread now. I was on the last 10 on Thursday November 9. There were hijinxs/usual craic on board but nothing really malicious up to when i got off(Stephens Green). There were too many people upstairs, 3or 4 had to stand I think. The driver turned off the engine twice in Belfield because of the shouting and jostling and didn't turn it back on again until it subsided. When he did this, a lot of people started stamping their feet so he turned it off again. I wasn't particularly drunk (had 4-5 f-bombs), but there were a lot of first years from Kilkenny and Wexford (they had jerseys on)who were v.messy and drinking bottles of wine/naggins. Had the potential to turn nasty alright. Must have been a colours night on in the Porto or somewhere. He turned off the engine again outside the campus and was thretening to throw everyone off.
