My Skoda currently has 13cm speakers in each door. They're fairly rubbish.

The head unit is a Blaupunkt rcr-128 and I think has 30watts x 4. Could anyone recommend me some new speakers? Anything from 50-100 euro. I tried a few shops in Bray and Dún Laoghaire but they'll all too expensive and a bit overkill for what I need.

Anyone know of any good shops in town? Or should I get them off the web?

    Any advice appreciated.

What are you looking for in speakers? Big bass or good responce, natural sound?
With 13cm, you will never have a really powerful, clear bass as the surface area of the speaker and driver is too small.
I changed the speakers in my Megane that were 13cm to Pioneers all round and they're pretty good for bass responce but nothing like 6x4" or a decent subwoofer.

The problem with my current speakers is that they distort with bass even when the bass is completly cut on the MP3 EQ -and- the head unit EQ.

I'm looking to spend not more than 80 euro.

Maybe something like thiser would do the job:
    http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_223309_langId_-1_CarSelectorCatalogId__CarSelectorGroupId__varient__categoryId_38226_crumb_31265-31371_parentcategoryrn_38226

Might head out to Liffey Valley and have a look.

I've those speakers in the front doors. Only paid about €50 in the sony center for them, excellent speakers for the price.

But tbh you'd really want to replace the headunit (Something with a better rating like 4x50W) and maybe add some larger speakers in the back to really enhance the sound.

So is the Halfods in Liffey Valley any use? Can anyone recommend any other shops?

Halfords have a good range, and more up to date than Argos, or smaller retailers which tend to stock only a few brands. People like to slag Halfords off, but their prices and selection are better than anywhere I can think of.

Halfords are overpriced, and sony audio is cheap crap dont waste your money on it.I wouldnt be too keen to go for blaupunkt stuff either.

Look at www.emotionautostyling.com or www.suped.ie or www.besecure2000.ie would all be cheaper than halfords OR if you dont mind buying online www.caraudiosecurity.co.uk will be cheaper than any of the above even after delivery (normally 2 days from the uk)

    Check out some of these

Alll far better than sony and cheaper. But regardless if your HU is a lump of crap your never going to get the most from your speakers, for best sound they need to be amp'd but if your HU has had its day then chances are they'l still sound woefull.

I got this headunit (E80)and these speakers (E70) from halfords about 6 months ago not bad price really. If you can get that any cheaper go ahead. Oh and make sure you get the keys to take out your old headunit.

I have the Pioneer speakers linked above in my motor and can vouch for their quality. I have a Pioneer DEH-P80MP headunit, lovely looking and powerful 60W.

This website http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk is also very good.

    i would pioneer emotion series..
    They're great..

I think most people here would say changing the speaker alone will do you little good unless you plan to put in an amplifier..
Few articles I've read on the net often says that the reason most stock speakers are crap is because of the limited power of the HU..

You mention 30W x4.. Is that RMS?? or max watt??
because if it's max, then the RMS will be lower than that..
    Always look for RMS value..

Your best bet is to get a decent amplifier to be honest..
because if you're running a good speaker off the HU,
It won't support it anyway and without the juice it need, it'll soon distort your speaker if you listen to it at quite high volume..
And that means "bye bye" good speaker

My amp is 4x19W RMS and 4x30 W max

I've taken out the speakers. It just says 4 Ohm on the back, and a serial number 6u0035411d which appaers to be a standard pre 2001 replacement speaker link

I'd love to replace the head unit but it has to have a tape facility and there's not many of them around anymore!

So do you still think it would be pointless replacing the speakers?

You may see a small difference in sound quality with a decent set of after market speakers in comparison to the OE units. The headunit is likely to be another reason you are having problems. The factory blaupunkt units in most cases are rubbish.

Your best be is to get a good head unit, replacement speakers, and a small active subwoofer. this way the 13cm can handle the mid to high and the sub looks after bass. Its going to be slightly over your budget :D but honestly your not going to improve your setup with 50-100 euro to a degree thats going to make much difference.
