A 29-year-old man has been charged in connection with an incident in which a student was injured by a falling traffic cone in Edinburgh.

Kate Flannery, 23, from Salthill in Galway city, is being treated in a spinal injuries unit at Glasgow's Southern General Hospital.

Police said a man handed himself in on Monday night after seeing an appeal. He is due to appear in court on Tuesday.

The cone fell from George IV Bridge onto Merchant Street on Sunday.

The injured Queen Margaret University College student was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary after the incident at 0340 GMT before later being transferred to the city's Western General Hospital.

Ms Flannery was then moved to Glasgow's Southern General Hospital.

Her family has travelled to Edinburgh from Dublin to be at her bedside.

Terrible altogether. Hope she recovers fully.
Fair play to him but at least a drunk fine is needed.

Doctors have feared paralysis from the start, as she couldn't feel her feet.

Two days ago, she said she had feeling on the left side of her body but not her right.

2 vertebre in her spine were crushed by the impact.

All we can do is wait and see.

My parents know the family (in case you're wondering how i know all this)
