Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Wireless security suggestions

    Hi All,

I recently got set up with Smart and am using a Linksys WRT54G router to the bridged modem.

My PC set up is as follows:

1 desktop with XP & wireless card
1 laptop with XP & wireless card (only occasionally in use - from work)
and 1 laptop with Millennium and wireless card.

I initially (and briefly) set up the network with no security to ensure all would work and they did.

I then set up a basic WEP encryption and once again they all worked.

I then moved to WPA and now the Millenium laptop doesn't work.

I would now like to achieve 2 aims - one to get the Millenium laptop working and the other to get it even more secure, how can I achieve this ?

Do I need to revert back to WEP encryption and use MAC address filtering?

    Any advice, greatfully received.

Does your laptops wireless card settings allow you to use wpa? If not then see if there is a driver update.

Both WEP and MAC filtering can both be easily overcome, so like Mark suggests see if you can find an update for your wireless card to use WPA. What's the wireless card?

By Millenium, I presume you mean Windows ME?

    Indeed I do.

I have a Belkin PCMIA card but uses RALINK chipset, I have just downloaded the latest driver so will try that tonight. I was under possibly wrong the impression that WPA was only available on XP.

Natively, yes AFAIK. But some cards can come with their own management software that can provide services that Windows can't, like my Netgear card does. I'm not sure if Belkin have anything like that though.
