k heres the story, im only 17 and i drive my dads bmw 99 520i. i know im lucky to have the car, so i don't speed or do anything stupid, also to not endanger anyone else on the road. so last night i dropped my girlfriend home and the car was running perfect, all the warning lights out. this morning my dad had to take the car to Dublin airport and when he turned it on the warning lights said that the abs and traction control wern't working. could it be a fuse gone or a electrics error, or could they actually be broken? noting happened last night, so i presume its a electrics problem. any ideas?

Probably just a fuse - if you have the manual handy it'll tell you where the fuses for the ABS and traction control systems are.

    p.s. you lucky bastard :D

check the ASC cable isn't snapped. Very common on these to go. Open the bonnet and its to your right towards the front. You'll see the ASC system do a mechanical reset by actuating the cable when you turn the key on to check the system is functioning.

You could also just try pressing the ASR button, I think it's under the radio. It is possible that somebody just accidentally turned the tc off, which would bring on the warning light.

had similar problem on my BMW - was a wheel sensor gone. costs about 150 to replace.

The ASC can go for many reasons - all usually due to some kind of damage or wear to the TC components.
Get it to a dealer or specialist for a fault diagnosis - its the only way to find out the true cause.
