I'm having the same problems as yourself.
I'm in cork and my ping is 200 for counterstrike.
Must have been the storms last night i'd say.

Dont think it was the storms, it happened in the last 2 hours.Anyone taking bets on long it will take eircom to resolve this ? :D

Same problem here, playing cs:s on IOA server and i was getting ping of 350ms, load of **** tbh

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,199 ✭✭✭twinQuins

I was just going to have a game of BF2142 when I noticed the servers (what ones appeared) had a red bar under latency. Hmm.

So I went into the advanced settings and found the ping going from 200 to 700(!). My line attenuation is up to 63/31 dB. An absolute joke.

Is your telephone line noticeably noisy when you listen on a telephone set?

My line sounded worse than usual earlier on, but mine has been terrible lately anyway..

Is this problem limited to Eircom? I'm on BT and its the same for me pings over 200...speeds have gone to pot to

    Looks fine to me.

Pinging www.joystiq.com was grand too, results in the 20ms range.

    I am on Eircom 3MBit.

Not sure what a ping is exactly but my eircom modem blew today, its completely lifeless, could this be connected to this Eircom activity.

It looks like anyone on an Eircom DSLAM is having trouble, that includes Esat.

That's pinging the BAS, the very first piece of hardware on the Esat side. It must be something in between causing the latency.. Something on the Eircom network. This does bode well though, means it should get fixed quickly.

Ya I'm suffering the same problem. It seems that nobody in Ireland can play on line outside of the country without encountering pings that are reminiscent of dial up. This has happened to me before it seems to take place every 4 to 6 months or so. The problem seems to be the gateway server into England. I'm with Eircom and i have emailed them regarding this problem(and others) and have yet to get a response other than an automated one. I doubt if they are aware of this anyway, much less being able to do anything about even if they did. The last time i encountered this problem it lasted for 24 hours. When i did finally get to speak to someone at Eircom 2 days later i was told that the problem was not their end and all was well with Eircom ETC:mad: .
So it looks like I'm not playing 2142 or anything else tonight it seems. For the record Eircom's customer support in my experience has to be one of the worst i have yet to encounter, and if i could contact them i would tell them so:mad:

People above have clearly pointed out that they are on Eircom. ESAT DSL runs over Eircom equipment in the exchanges.

I'll be mailing support@iol.ie as advised in previous comments on the same problem from several months ago. Eircom customers should probably do the same to their appropriate support addresses

Although it could be two seperate problems alright if Eircom people are only having trouble exiting the country, but local connections are fine, whereas Esat people are having trouble with the very first link.

Ping is chronic ok - tried playing coduo on DVDF server and quit as it was 250-300.

I am on eircom and noticed the netopia stats say I'm a-ok, low(ish) attenuation 34/15 and 2048/256 but when I've tried measuring the download rate on pcpitstop.com it was only 310 to 400kbps. (typically 1850kbps).

Ahh well, better go talk to the wife... lol

    maybe tomorrow. :-)

    Guys,
I had very poor speeds today (5MB connection) and restarted the router(netopia). When it came back, it said the DSL was available, but Broadband was disconnected. When I hit the connect button, it prompted me to enter the user name and Password so i did (its always been the default one:
    UserName:eircom@eircom.net
    Password:broadband1).

Each time it came back and said i had the wrong username or password(evern though this has never changed from day 1).
Could this be due to the poor connections people were talking about earlier in the post (and should i just wait until the morning)or does it sound like something more serious??

Keep the settings as you have - I'd reckon it's just the day thats in it. I reset my router and it came back eventually, seemed really fast but went back to the same crap within 5 mins. :-(

No need to change the settings you already have methinks m8.

Its absolutely painful, has dropped (in the last 15mins) by about 100, you have to remember just because esat/bt and smart use eircoms exchange to get to the consumer doesnt mean they use eircoms data backbone to access the internet, obiviously they do not as they are not experiencing this. Seriously considering a move to BT, this is not the first downtime this has happened to me.
