    Hi All

Where can I find the penalties for garages/dealers that sell unroadworthy/unsafe cars?

    Is it illegal?
If they don't tell you of its accident history then they are at fault (as long as you can prove it) but I would doubt that it is illegal for something dangerous to be sold.

Sale of Goods Act implies into any contract for the sale of a motor vehicle that it is free of any defect that would make it dangerous to any member of the public (including any person being transported by it). Breach of this can result in the contract being rescinded

Not if it is made clear that they are damaged and unroadworthy.

Unless it is specifically stated then by law a car sold by a dealer is to be assumed in a fit condition for it's purpose.

Which brings us back to my point that it is difficult to prove afterwards that the buyer was not informed of previous accident damage.
Also many dealers & private transactions are 'sold as seen'.

KB - IIRC, a dealer can't sell to non-trade "sold as seen". This is open to correction.
