What kind of warranty are dell laptops covered by? I presume that if you only take out their basic 90 day collect and return service you are still covered by a 1 year warranty but have to pay for returning the laptop yourself?

yeah..seems like you have got to grips with the detail alright...problem with the 90 day craic is it takes most users that duration to get the beast working... so its a confidence trick for the main part, but if you like paying extra in the knowledge that you dont need to call a cab then grand...work away...your getting shafted both ways anyrate.;)

just to set you straight a 90 day warrenty is exactly that ...if you have a hardware failure after 90 days you need to purchase an OWR - out of warrenty repair...sales will be only too happy to pass you on to them ( they are a seperate op run out of Bangalore) or to save your nerves use the website support section ...hope this helps..
    regards
