    Hi all,

I hope someone can help me with this. I have the above router which had been working perfectly well both wired and wireless up until a couple of nights ago.

The wireless connection dropped so I did my usual thing of resetting the router but no joy there. So left it till the next day thinking the internet was down. So tried it yesterday and still no joy. Now I have noticed one of my laptops which is hard-wired through the router doesnt connect either too the internet.

The router is working to a certain extent even through wireless. For instance I can wirelessly connect from my wireless laptop too the hard wired laptop and see my shared folders. Also my wired laptop can find the router.

I also tried to ping the google website with the IP address but still no joy with that.

My wireless laptop does pick up the wireless connection just not the internet. I tried to reset the router to the default factory settings and setup the wireless network up again but still no joy connecting to the internet either by the hard-wired laptop or wireless laptop.

Now as a test to make sure the cables and modem were working I connected one of the laptops directly too the modem and the internet worked fine. It just seems to be the internet part of the router that isnt working.

The only changes I made too the network in the last couple of days was the security, I applied WPA encryption. When I applied it though it all worked fine for me.

Oh the modem I was using was a netopia but I swapped it out for a Zyxel (not sure if I have that spelt right, its the BT broadband modem) thinking it might be the modem.

So too be honest I am stumped. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

    Ciaran

Hope this makes more sense to yourself because networks certainly are not my strong point.

Ok rules out DNS servers as a problem as you can't even ping ip addresses.

How is the modem connected to the router? And is the modem in bridge mode?

    irlrobins,

My sincere apologies if I wasted your time at all, maybe actually this thread can be deleted by an admin. I fixed the problem, it seems at some stage my modem got reset back to factory settings and lost its username/password. Put them in and all of a sudden both the wired and wireless laptops are now connected back to the internet.

Sorry if I wasted your time.

    Thanks
    Ciaran

lol. No worries. Better to find it's a "stupid" reason as to why it's not working than one that is impossible to solve. Enjoy surfing!

I think the problem was wiring up too many too's and not enough to's in the post. wiring 2 and too and to .. to too will get you a tat to many twos , now to will not go into a tutu
