There are the metal rawl plugs with "wings" which spread that are good for hanging heavy things.
There there are the picture hangers which have 5 or six pin nails which are handy for lighter things.

Just find the centre of the stud and use screws long enough to give good purchase into the timber, remember that the slab is 12 mil thick before you enter the stud.
I just use 50mm drywall screws to mount a lot of stuff.

    Thanks lads

How do I find the center of the stud, by the tapping the walls or is there an easier way?

Sorry would you drill a pilot hole by using a masonry or wood drill bit?

You really need a good stud detector , they are about €30 or so for a reasonable one.
They make life easy just slide it along the wall and it will make a noise or light up when it detects the stud, mark it put it on the other side and do the same, there you have your stud.
Pilot holes in slab= wood drill.
