I'm loking to buy a cheap microphone €20 range. It's to be used to record school kids singing in their classroom. The Sony FV 100 seems appropriate but anywhere I find it online won't deliver to Ireland. Can anyone tell me which online shops will deliver to Ireland or where to look in town. And other similar microphones (omni) that might suit.

I don't have any experience of microphones in that price range to be honest but if you have to do it I'd suggest avoiding the hundreds of anonymous brands out there and stick with the likes of Sony etc. If you can spring the extra few quid consider looking at a microphone specialist like Shure or maybe Sennheiser. Sorry I couldn't be of more help!

A cheap mic will have lots of limitations - sound quality, gain, noise, bad reproduction. I'd have to agree with forbisher, get a Shure or a Sennheiser that best suits your budget - but it is going to cost you a bit more than €20.

It's not too bad if I have to spend more money. Where though should i go to buy the mic?

This could be a good place to start. It's a great mic that is in use in top studios and has been used as live mic by people like Bono. This is a kit that includes extras you might need too: http://www.thomann.de/ie/shure_sm58_set.htm

I'd also suggest giving these guys a bell too, they deal with alot of thomann stuff, are good guys and are in Dublin: http://www.musictechnology.ie/

Ummmm...folks, he asked for an omni patterned mic ?

A Behringer ECM8000 will do the trick for for around 40quid. I wouldn't go for a cardiod dynamic such as the 57 or 58 if you are recording choral stuff that needs one mic to capture a whole ensemble.

You will need a desk or preamp with 48v phantom power for the Behringer, but it sounds very natural indeed.

EDIT: Just checked Thomann.de, and they seem to have gone uo to around 56quid now, but I'm sure they can be had for less if you shop around or use evilbay.
