What do you think dreams really are? Do you think they are glimpses into alternate paths our lives can/could have taken, or visions into a past life of some sort, or even glimpses of the future, or do you think they are simply our mind at play, excercising our imaginations?

I think they're nervous echos of what we experienced that day... fed into a conciousness that tries to make sense of them based on what we already know of the world... and allowed to run wild because there's no sensory evidence to the contrary because our bodies are asleep.

Dreams can sometimes be wish fulfillment. If you are passionate about someone and think about them in that way by day, occasionally at night when asleep your wish may be fulfilled.

Sometimes dreams can be warnings about the future. For deeply religious people (those who are thinking about God every moment of their lives), dreams might have the purpose of guidance. Of course, to believe that, you first have to believe in God.

You can be religious / spiritual without having a belief in God(s).

You can also take guidance from your dreams without being religious / spiritual.

I think dreams might be a product of our subconscious thoughts and desires. Often jumbled rubbish, but sometimes capable of telling us a lot about ourselves.

A jumbled mix of recent memories and thoughts that your brain tries to piece together into some kind of story, nothing more.
