The apartment I am living in since spring has been getting damp on the walls of one of the bedrooms in recent weeks. It is also affecting the carpet and blinds. I was wondering if a dehumidifier would have much if any effect on stopping this. Any feedback would be great.

    Cheers

It'll help to be sure. What is the air circulation like in the room? Unfortunately dampness makes you cold so you close the windows therefore you can get condensation which aggrevates the dampness. More heat and open windows, sounds mad I know but there you go.
Is it a rented apartment? If it is there is some owness on the landlord to sort it out for you.

As said a dehumidifier will help but you have to get to the root of the problem such as having no fresh air circulation in the room, that or some form of structural problem.

Oh, and welcome back Hagar :)

The windows are opened every day but shut at night. Think it may have something to do with the apartment been about 20 meters from the shannon. Also it is over the carpark entrance door. It s not mine but the landlord is a friend!
    Thanks lads

If it's a new build, it probably was decorated before the conc had time to dry out fully. Try pulling up the carpet at a corner to see if this is the case.

A dehumidifier would work; but you should try to find the cause and eliminate it as they are quite hard on the elec.

If it's only in one patch there could be no insulation on that part of the wall,
