I dont know what to make of that post retalivity. You included this - [edited by muffler] in post no. 5 when I did not actually edit that particular post.

Its a banable offense to state that any mod performed a particular action when in fact they didn't.

On the other hand you could have meant that you wanted to know more about what I edited out of post no. 2 and on this occasion I will give you the benefit of the doubt and assume it was the latter you meant.

Thanks to McDowell there was a will there be or won't there be a casino. so now we know. Plus the Grill have waited until everyone else renovated and opened before they take their rightful place back by storm.

By all accounts the plans are fab. They are never beaten at their own game. I have no doubt they shall build a fantastic complex with a bar and club. If they poach the best DJs, music content and staff, they'll soon settle Letterkenny down.... But it still would be good to have some choice afterwards also.

Personally I'd like to see the Grill and Milan survive and co-exist somehow.

In fairness it is not beyond Letterkennys ability to become the entertainment capital of Ireland and already, Grill included, Letterkennys Club Decor and designs are way above most in Ireland. It should be marketed better as it is a huge part of the economy locally.

This may not be unrealistic as Voodoo seems to have galvanised the other clubs and Student Union.

We should not knock what Letterkenny has to offer but market it in a way that will attract quality clubbers etc.

You been to Milan yet? (Beside Gallaghers Hotel).

Agreed Donegalgirl, Letterkenny probably has Irelands best Nightlife, definatley no town of its size compares and few clubs nation wide match the decor locally or technology employed.

Its a pity Voodoo trumped up their club so much, wrongly too I believe, but Jason would have been better employed putting his energy into building the towns reputation for nitelife as a whole rather than his ego... though I can't wait to see how deflated it'll will get in a short three months. Voodoo will have one of the shortest honeymoon periods of any club nationlly. <SNIP>

Is it true that the Orchard's business has collapsed since voodoo opened?

I was in the casino -it's excellent - apparently they're doing up the niteclub then knocking it in 2 years and going up 5 storeys which seems a bit strange!

  • Registered Users Posts: 14,297 ✭✭✭✭retalivity

supposedly there was less than 40 people in the orchard on new years eve.
I heard they were closing the club/disco before xmas, but kept it on as one last hurrah.
    didnt work though.

  • Registered Users Posts: 14,339 ✭✭✭✭jimmycrackcorm

I heard that the Orchard is to be sold. Rumour has it that it will go to the "real" owner of Voodoo....

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 431 ✭✭donegalman1

I hear a sale is pending. Two Devleopers being mentioned. PJ and Mc Gettigan. It would have huge development potential when you look at the site and take the house next door into consideration.

the Orchard is open and staying open and NYE while quieter than normal still had a couple of hundred in. The problem is that upstairs has always catered to the same crowd as now catered for by Milan and Voodoo and this crowd tend towards the newest and shiniest place and without pumping in a few million there's no way to compete, especially with the Grill's plans. So upstairs is now closed but downstairs will continue to cater for the people who actually care about what music they hear when they go out and prefer to go somewhere agro free. Let's face it where else will you hear CSS and Arcade Fire alongside James Brown? Fridays is still free in and packed, as it was over xmas, and Saturdays is doing very nicely too. No sale is pending- that rumour has been doing the rounds for about 10 years now! (And the house next door is on a lease to the Gael Cholaiste and is not owned by the same people as the pub/ restaurant/ club..... jeez......).

Always liked downstairs followed by numerous parties scathered around the town, good mix of music and good craic. Its been a while since I had the pleasure though was kinda like the days of the Clarence in Sligo.

    Apologies MOds.

Good to see Daithi now on the Boards. I believe you have lots to offer on other topics too.

BTW I have heard James brown played in Milan a few times in the past year too, so maybe not all clubs are as you see them.

Back to topic, it is a watershed to see the Grill actually close, and I am sure they must be planning one hell of a club if this is the case.

Letterkenny surely must be the best Nightclub venue town around, I doubt if the population can sustain it but maybe it could become the next galway

thanks for the warm welcome. but my comment was css beside arcade fire beside james brown, not just playing james brown alone which is a fairly obvious thing to do in any club. , he's one of the best selling artists ever! What I think gives us in the Orchard our (only) edge is our freedom to play whatever we want from all genres including new cutting edge bands and acts. I can confidently predict that NO other club in town plays as much new music across all genres as we do. Mind I have been told that my sets from six months ago have been trotted out by a dj in another club but hey imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, right?
